Review

Healing from Post Traumatic Stress Having experienced the trauma of childhood sexual abuse in my life, I found this book to be extraordinarily helpful for anyone suffering from the emotional & physical discomfort of post traumatic stress. It is filled with insightful self care techniques to help support healing & recovery through hard times & difficult days. Every chapter is filled with gentle, caring & safe suggestions, that encourage the reader to find their path towards inner peace. Throughout the book, the author's warmth & compassion is obvious, as she shows you how to develop your self confidence, while dealing with the feelings of the trauma. No other self care workbook that I have read in the past, has been as informative & comforting. PS: Thank you so much for allowing me the pleasure of reading your book. Finally, I wish I had a read such as this, when I faced my own personal trauma. Your book is wonderful. -- a client - anonymous

Monique Lang provides readers with effective tools to help process and understand traumatic experiences. It is a powerful book for those interested in helping themselves as well as an adjunct to seeking professional support. Its easy to read text and straight-forward exercises provide a very important first step. I highly recommend Healing from Post Traumatic Stress for both the general public and professionals working with Trauma Survivors. -- Lois Guarino, Director of People & Culture Omega Institute for Holistic Studies

Healing from Post Traumatic Stress is that rare combination in the trauma literature of a book that is practical, well written and scientifically accurate. The author begins by helping her readers learn the skills required to manage the powerful emotions associated with trauma. Then, step by step, she takes us through the process of healing and growth. Her use of nonverbal techniques such as collage and drawing adds an unusually strong dimension. This book is an invaluable tool for professionals working with traumatized individuals and I highly recommend it for that purpose. -- Rosemary Masters, Co-Director of the Trauma Studies Program of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City.

Monique Lang has produced a comprehensive workbook which beautifully speaks to the many feelings and challenges commonly experienced by individuals who have been traumatized. Using a holist approach, the book empathically encourages individuals to work through the trauma related feelings and behaviors which may be negatively impacting their lives. Feelings commonly experienced by those who have been traumatized are outlined in a manner which also respects and affirms individual differences. Readers are then assisted to develop healthier lifestyle behaviors and patterns. The book's empowering tone, combined with its practical exercises, effectively assists individuals impacted by trauma to move from a place of being a victim to one of being a survivor. -- Sylvie Jeanloz, ACSW, Assistant Executive Director, Adult and Family Services Kingsbridge Heights Community Center

This is a masterful and resourceful book that clinicians will find enormously helpful in their work with trauma survivors. Clients can utilize the workbook to develop the skills and awareness necessary for healing. This book represents an important integration of trauma theory, the body and spirituality in a way that offers guidance and hope in our work with trauma clients. -- Rita Hayes ,LCSW, former Clinical Director of the World Trade Center Rescue and Volunteer Program at Mount Sinai Hospital; Faculty, Trauma Studies Center, ICP.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful By Danielle Katz on March 30, 2008
Format: Paperback
In her second book, Healing From Post-Traumatic Stress: A Workbook for Recovery, Monique Lang again provides a thoughtful and insightful tool with which to aid the process of healing from trauma. In a format similar to her first book, Journey to Wholeness: Healing From the Trauma of Rape, Lang's workbook sensitively provides factual information, but also recognizes the personal nature of trauma and creates oportunities for activities that may be individualized by the user of this book. This caring book provides supportive and constructive assistance to those healing from trauma and assures the reader that he/she is not alone and that there is no one "right" way to recovery. Another superb book from this author!

I am a psychotherapist who works with trauma and my clients have found Healing Post Traumatic stress a great support both for our work together and to take home and continue to feel held by the process. The book is clear and very user friendly. I highly recommend it for both professionals and for people who have had to deal with Trauma.

Healing From Post - Traumatic Stress: A Workbook For Recovery by Monique Lang, LCSW, offers specific mind/body techniques and coping mechanisms to deal with obsessive thoughts, repressed feelings and reactive behaviors as a result of trauma. The book is designed as a workbook and has lots of steps to follow, places to write insights, and areas for notes to use as your own personal reference journal for healing. I recommend it highly for anyone not only dealing with trauma, but everyday stresses as well.

This book is beautifully written with easy to follow exercises designed to assist you. You can skip through the exercises if you wish and still get a lot out of the book. I've been dealing with surviving 9/11 and this book has helped me very much. I purchased two more and gave them to friends of mine who are dealing with other post-traumatic issues. They found this book just as helpful as I did. It's easy to read and very informative.
