A sensitive book,
By
This review is from: The Healing Quilt (Paperback)
What a lovely book! Lauraine Snelling knows how to tell a story and Ienjoyed each and every character. The Healing Quilt has real characters with real problems. I've never lost a child, but I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for Lauraine to write this book. While it wasn't a biography, or even based on her own loss, each word she typed must have brought back memories of her own daughter. Thank you, Lauraine for writing what I know is a book destined to help many people. I love how she included Aunt Teza's cancer journey along with Beth's This is a book I can't wait to share with friends who have or are Lauraine is a wonderful writer and I look forward to reading many more

MAKES YOU THINK,
By
This review is from: The Healing Quilt (Paperback)
Ever since meeting Lauraine Snelling at a writers conference a few years ago, I look forward to an opportunity to read one of her books. I just finished The Healing Quilt. It's a powerful story. My daughter is 18, and the possibility of someone so young going through breast cancer had never occured to me.Perhaps because of my daughter's age, I strongly identified with Kit's struggle with the loss of her daughter. The synergy of the quilting group brings each woman through her loss to healing. I might not make the same decisions--but the growth reflects the characters we come to know in the book. It made me long for a simpler lifestyle, where I could volunteer for community events and spend time with friends. Read The Healing Quilt. You will meet yourself in one or more of the women.

the most moving and compelling novel ever written,

I finished reading this book in 3 hours. It was the most moving and compelling novel I have ever read. While amazed at how strong this group of women was, they were each struggling with a battle of their own. This book shows you how you can lean on friends in your time of need, and they will always be there for you. It also shows how everyone deals with their own pains and struggles in their own way, but it doesn't mean they love you any less. This novel is a must read for everyone.

A Wonderful Book for Everyone!,
By Coppertop (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Healing Quilt (Paperback)
This book was awesome. The women were working together for cancer awareness and research and had to come to terms with things in their past. Many important themes were hit on and it's a book I would recomment to anyone and doubly to someone who has faced cancer or post-abortion syndrome. The realities of living with cancer and the heartache of the terrors of abortion were shown in this wonderful novel. The women's faith in God helped them to face their problems and be able to move on with their lives.

Obvious, badly plotted, and tired characters,
By reads4fun (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Healing Quilt (Paperback)
This book was awful in so many ways. The tone was obnoxiously preachy; the characters and situations cliched. I think most 12 year olds could write characters that were more interesting and real. Worse that a TV sitcom, only without any laughs. The plotline could not have been more obvious. Most offensive is the young wife who solves major depression by just being honest and forgiving herself for her past "mistake". The simplistic solutions for all the problems brought up are insulting. This fiction is medically, emotionally, and spiritually unsound! I wish I had not wasted the time to read it.

Four women, One plan!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Healing Quilt (Paperback)
Reading The Healing Quilt gave me goose bumps. The characters I'm sure live on everyones street! I loved the fast pace that Lauraine Snelling is able to give us. Though don't plan on having dinner right after you start to read. Aunt Teza will comfort everyone.A story about how one town and the women that live there. How we can believe and dream and make that dream a reality and when the reality is going to save lives at that! This is a story worth reading. Not like drinking a coke..fast because you are thirty. But a story that's more like a devine bowl of pudding. I cherished every page as the characters stood up and came alive! Now? Where's my sewing needle to join the group in The Healing Quilt?

The Healing Power of Forgiveness,
By
This review is from: The Healing Quilt (Paperback)
The Healing Quilt is an example of the healing power of forgiveness and how it can release bitterness, restore humility, renew one's joy. An inviting and inspiring story of four women and how forgiveness touches each of their lives in a unique way.

I ordered 4 books from different bookstores, I received 3 of the 4, the books came very fast. One store had listed 2 available, but by the time my order was processed they only had one. My money was refunded, no problem. I would order through Amazon again.

Disappointed,
By
This review is from: The Healing Quilt (Paperback)
Although the content of the book was good, the characters did not come to life. There was little reference to physical character traits, eyes, gestures, color of hair, ditinguishing features, etc. There was a lot of conversation, though. After waiting the entire book to meet Kit's husband, he arrived with a few sentences. The climax at the end when the quilt was sold at an auction, we are only told that the quilters looked at the man. This book was very unsatisfying to me.

Loved the story, the charachters and the quilting theme. Would have given this 5 stars but for a couple things. First, what did happen with the mammogram unit and the women's center? I also did not like the way the Kitt's husband just walked back into her life after disappearing for months and all was well.
These issues, however, are minor compared to the non-stop errors in the formatting maybe of the book. I read it on Kindle, and I was starting to believe either the book was translated from another language without being proofread, or something went horribly, horribly wrong with the whisper net transmission. The word pills was pitts, the letter/word I was the number 1, words just ended and so did sentences throughout. It was very frustrating to read an entire book this way. I would recommend the book, but if anyone else runs into what I did, amazon should be contacted for corrections. |
