I'll re-review after I have completely finished reading it the first time, I can see that I will probably be referring back to this book for quite some time to come.

Compelling information for everyone! You'll be surprised how much useful information is in the book that you can apply to your life. Who knew sound was so important and could have such an impact on our life and health.

I picked up the book and read it straight-through. A big surprise as I didn't expect it to be so compelling. It was! I find myself now going back through the book when I want to "change my sound environment" or need a pick me up for a run. I try to choose music/sound based on what my needs are (focus, inspiration, creativity, relax, health) at that particular moment in my life. It's so easy to change my sounds/music when I need to: close a window for silence, take a walk and listen to the environment, change the beat during a workout.

There's a whole section on children and how to use sound in their lives to create a more harmonious life experiennce, whether it be more focus in school, calming a hyper child, special needs, ADHD, Austism, etc...Some really effective tips on making homework time less a frustration for the parent!

We are all aging and the research behind using sound/music to maintain and repair brain health is solid. The authors share great ideas on how to reduce or eliminate those "senior moments" by using vibration, melody, and tone to sharpen our minds, and mitigate the effects of illness and other challenges of aging. You can take charge and profoundly influence the quaity of your mental health, physical, and psychological functioning in later life with the use of sound.

I'm just scratching the surface here. Tons of other useful material in the book. Definitley not a struggle to get the through the book. You'll carry it around as a reference for years to come.

Easy read. A topic that most would not think is that important, but it really shows how sound affects us. It affects us more than I was aware. Was able to make some quick adjustments to my environment which have made a big difference. Book was VERY entertaining and enjoyable. None of the chapters sprawl on forever. It moves fast and provides plenty of fun, relative links to music and videos. LOVED IT!!

The world deserves this book! Every parent should know how stimulate their child's development with sounds. Every child should know how to soothe their aging parent. Every person should know the power of sound in their own life. This book makes these events easy to achieve. The book itself is full of those experiences as sound literally rises from the pages and engages the reader in a journey towards wisdom & health. Our own healing occurs as we read. Thanks to the authors for a job brilliantly done!

This is a quick and easy read if you just read. However there are 81 audio and video links as well (you have to type them if you are reading the paper book). There are also 8 downloads. Many of these links are inspiring videos or beautiful music. If you like the music you can find them on Amazon or iTunes or Rhapsody or other music sites. If you listen / watch all of these it will take significantly longer but it is worth it.

There were several chapters in this book that didn't do much for me because they weren't relevant. There were two chapters on babies and children and another on the healing power of music in a hospital or medical sitting that simply aren't relevant to me but they probably would be to some readers.

If you really aren't into music this book might get you there and if you are you will probably love it. Recommended.

I got this book on the recommendation of a friend and LOVED it. I highly recommend it! I didn't appreciate the extent to which sound that I'm not in control of impacts my mood, productivity, enjoyment, relaxation, sleep -- my quality of life. Thanks to the authors for helping me understand that OF COURSE I should be taking control of the sounds I "consume", just like I do with the foods I eat, rather than just listening to whatever other sounds are happening around me and my family. I'm excited. I feel empowered!

I already had a "workout" playlist. Now I'm making new ones for getting the day started, focusing at work, beating my 2-3pm lull (instead of another cup of coffee), and winding down at night. So while working at my desk I've started to play music in the background -- just loud enough for me to hear and to "cover" unwanted outside sounds like others' phone conversations and traffic. And over the weekend I turned off the loud lawnmower the landscaper across the street left idling while doing something else -- I didn't realize just how much it was affecting me until it was silent and I could hear the birds again. Thank you!

We're concerned with what we eat, our emotional stressors, and the environmental toxins that may be affecting us, but few of us consider our sound environment. What does it do to us when we're constantly exposed to artificial and noxious sounds--and what are the benefits of hearing natural, harmonious sounds? Healing at the Speed of Sound is a fascinating look into how we can improve our well being, our level of energy, and even our physical health by altering our sound environment.

For people with noise sensitivity or auditory processing disorder, this is an especially helpful book in that it explains what we are experiencing and how to address it to make ourselves more comfortable and better able to listen and focus in cluttered sound environments. It also clarifies why listening to certain types of music, or environmental sounds, can be so incredibly helpful.

If you can, get an interactive electronic version of this book so you can click through instantly to the auditory, visual, and informational links that will enhance your understanding of the material. If you buy a traditional copy, be sure to get on the internet to check out the links.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in knowing more about sound health, and auditory processing issues.
