"I am very enthusiastic about this book, its treatment orientation, and its emphasis on healing tasks undertaken in a graduated sequence. It makes a substantial contribution to the clinical strategies currently available for the treatment of adult survivors of childhood abuse, and as such, is a resource for therapists struggling with treatment issues generated by the repressed memory/delayed memory controversy."
- Christine A. Courtois, Ph.D., Director of Clinical Training, Psychiatric Institute of Washington
"Therapists, adult survivors, counselors, ministers, and all concerned with the long-term effects of childhood sexual abuse should read this book. A fresh new approach that integrates recent developments in the field of post-traumatic stress disorder."
- John P. Wilson. Ph.D., Director, Center for Stress and Trauma, Cleveland
"What a fine work this is! Kepner, a virtuoso Gestalt therapist, provides a powerful, practical framework for survivors of abuse and their therapists that is thorough, thoughtful, clear, comprehensive, humane, and impeccably intelligent. A must for any clinician's library, and empowering reading for survivors in need of a solid, intellectual grasp on their experience."
- Belleruth Naparstek, LISW, author, Staying Well with Guided Imagery
"Kepner provides a compassionate, knowledgeable, and careful analysis of how to take a Gestalt approach when working with survivors of child sexual abuse. I highly recommend this book."
- Catherine Classen, Ph.D., Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford

Excellent book for the clinician dealing with trauma,
By Tim Warneka "Leadership Expert, Keynote Speak... (Cleveland, OH USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Healing Tasks: Psychotherapy with Adult Survivors of Child Abuse (Gestalt Institute of Cleveland Publication) (Hardcover)
Jim Kepner has wrote an easy-to-read, accessible book for any therapist who works with trauma. (I have suggested the book to a number of my clients who have found it quite helpful as well.)Dr. Kepner looks at the PROCESS of treating trauma, something that seems to be left out of the literature in our modern day rush to overprescribe medications and search for quick fixes. I have found this book and the model he describes in it, to be very helpful as a "road map" of sorts in my own work. Finally, I have had the great priviledge of being able to study directly with Dr. Kepner. I find him to be highly intelligent, insightful and passionate about the work that he does. Dr. Kepner and his colleague Carol DeSanto have been creating an energetic process of working with trauma that they have called "Nervous System Energy Work". For anyone interested in subtle energy (such as Reiki), I would invite you to learn more about NSEW at Dr. Kepner's website: www.pathwaysforhealing.com.

I Found Myself in This Book,

This review is from: Healing Tasks: Psychotherapy with Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse (Paperback)
This book explained the impact of the chidhood abuse and neglect that I experienced and gave me a concrete set of ideas about how to heal. I recommend it to all those who are adult survivors as well as those who work at healing them.
