She guides you through the process of self healing through guided imagery leaving you feeling very good about yourself. It is a powerful tool for those in need of developing their self-esteem and self-worth. Each chapter gives you another way to look at the world through the experiences and insights of those who have encountered peace within the world no matter what is going on around them. There is no way around stress, but you can find a path through it inside your being by remembering who you are. This book takes you on a journey into the heart and soul of healing care. It is centered in the hearts of those willing to reach deep within themselves and uncover what appears to have been lost - their soul.

A great gift for people living in fast times,

This book is just what the doctor ordered - or maybe what the doctor should have ordered but didn't know about. Tell your doctor!
We live in times of great change and transformation, and sometimes it's hard to keep up. The body and the emotions often need help in order to be relaxed and to stay in the present moment. This book teaches us a variety of ways to do just that, and to heal from past traumas and attitudes that limit us. I love the stories. It's moving and transformative to get a glimpse into just how powerful self-guided imagery is in the lives of individual people. Leslie's sensitive and perceptive portrait-painting with words makes them very real. And not only portraits of people, but of the world around us. She reminds us to love this world and live in it whole-heartedly, whole-mindedly, whole-bodily. I'm recommending this book to friends and clients - I just did so this very day!

Leslie Davenport's book "Healing and Transformation through Self-Guided Imagery" has given me new hope during a time of great challenge.
While I was in treatment for breast cancer treatment I saw Leslie for Guided Imagery. That was ten years ago. When treatment ended I found myself slowly sliding back into a hectic lifestyle and forgetting the tools that had helped me so profoundly while going through my health crisis. From the beginning of chapter one Leslie's book grabbed me and reminded of the peace and serenity I had gained in the past. Now I have the tools to re-embrace guided imagery in a new way. I remind myself to take time for myself so I can develop more clarity and reclaim the serenity that I need during today's troubling times. I will recommend this book to my friends and family... especially my aging parents. This book is not only a gift, it should be required reading. What could be more important than being in touch with our own desires and dreams? We can then find the answers to the deeper meaning in our own lives. This book is a gem.

Brain Tumor Surgery Therapy,
By
This review is from: Healing and Transformation Through Self Guided Imagery (Paperback)
After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, I turned heavily to guided imagery both before, to prepare for the surgery, and after, for healing. However, after a period, the healing slowed and improvements came slowly. Then I obtained this book to search deeper inside myself for additional healing techniques. Wow. This book has provided me with so many additional tools and continued my healing. I am now 1 1/2 years post surgery. My doctors tell me I am the poster child for this type of tumor surgery. They have asked how I am managing to continue to improve, while others with similar surgeries are stalled. Guided Imagery is my recommendation to them and their patients. They are most impressed but I could not have accomplished what I have without this book. It's become my handbook to a fuller, richer life.

Wonderful support for healing and personal growth,
By AlexaD "Alexa" (San Francisco Bay Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Healing and Transformation Through Self Guided Imagery (Paperback)
Leslie Davenport's book provides a manual with great tools to support healing and personal growth of all kinds. A friend who is recovering from breast cancer (and the traumatic medical treatment that goes along with that disease) told me she had benefitted from this type of guided imagery work and, knowing that I work with people at various stages of healing in my professional life, recommended this book as a resource. As I was reading it, I quickly realized that the ideas and tools the author offers can be of use to and benefit just about anyone, and work for all different types of "healing and self-transformation." I found this book accessible, comprehensive, inspiring, and, as a bonus, beautifully written. Highly recommended.

A miracle for yourself,
This review is from: Healing and Transformation Through Self Guided Imagery (Paperback)
I had the pleasure of working with Leslie in therapy at a needed time in my life and guided imagery was a memorable part of our work together. It left a lasting impression on how powerfully enlightening and simple in process imagery can be. The book is a beautiful extension of Leslie's devoted work to guided imagery as a healing and transformative tool that anyone can participate in. She writes as if she is talking with you directly. I felt her comforting and compassionate presence through her words. She supports the reader with tools, and resources, and meaningful stories. Leslie is a believer in miracles and the book is a personal opportunity for anyone to experience that for themselves. I hope you will enjoy the gift of this book as much as I do.

take some time and slow down,
This review is from: Healing and Transformation Through Self Guided Imagery (Paperback)
This book is a gift from its author to each of us. So eloquently written it transported me to a place where I understood and learned more than a semester of graduate school. The personal stories and the guided imagery examples are written so that all who read this book can learn and benefit. I will be buying it for all the people in my life that I care about. The art of self-guided imagery gets brighter,
By
This review is from: Healing and Transformation Through Self Guided Imagery (Paperback)
There have been a few grandmasters in the field of current guided imagery and related modalities and for me; one that has stood tallest is Ernest Rossi. He champions the art of imagination through his rigorous lens and his works on dreams, mind body healing and the new field of gene expression. He has more than once reminded me of the force of remaining in a state of inspired attention in the work of imagination requires degrees of novelty. It is one of the keys for maintaining a deep connection with self facilitated inner states. The key he explained are those wonderful moments when one sees with new eyes, those ah ha moments; the surprises that are the key points that engage at the deepest levels when one is working in the area of imagery. We now explore Ms Davenport's new work. Ms. Davenport brings a visionaries perspective. Not those lofty metaphysical visions but the grounded ones that reflect back to the reader the ground of nature and simple being. Her skilled writing takes us into a gentle guided imagery landscape accompanied with exercises that unfolds one. In what she calls her eyes opened exercise, exercises that artfully help in maintaining novelty. These exercises are pointers, way finders, and refreshing alternatives for enhancing one's inner guidance system. Davenport's title reminds us - through self-guided imagery - that her work is her eyes open approach and is brought to each page as a very subtle reminder that there are layers of seeing in the deeper sense and as one sees the more open one becomes through her skillful guidance and poetic storytelling as well a collection of narratives and wisdom teachings. She beckons the reader to see over there, to imagine what it would be like in a faraway time -- she is able to weave a relationship to those strands of being, of possibility of being this. Her gentle guidance protects us from the sand traps of fantasy or worse yet, over influenced by other abstractions. Her lessons become a valuable interplay in helping one navigate uncharted imagery waters. She asks, in one of her exercises. What does this flower want you to know; an exquisite metaphor for unfolding one's own inner flower. Ms. Davenport concluded her deep self guided imagery writings by quoting Blake from his doors of perception, where everything is seen. This work is a welcome companion to selected writings of other authors as Rossman, Archterberg and Naperstak, who have championed guided imagery. This is a companion piece because of its self-facilitated guided exercises, which offers the reader new tools, a kind of neo journal, a collection of sensory perceptions-- a vehicle for layered expression through one's intuitive senses. The work itself is an invitation to sit, reflect and allow the tea to be served as it quiets one allowing the imagery to unfold and healing and transformation to enter and greet us. "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed." Jung In reading Healing and Transformation through Self-Guided Imagery the reader leaves better for it as did this one.

Excellent resource for workshop leaders and healing professionals,
By
This review is from: Healing and Transformation Through Self Guided Imagery (Paperback)
I am a SoulCollage® facilitator, and I also lead "Choosing to Walk on the Bright Side of the Road" workshops. Both of these workshops help women stay connected to themselves during difficult life situations, and I often use guided imagery in my work with them. This book is an amazing resource for me. It is helping me to deepen my own inner work, as well as giving me brilliant and very usable ideas to share with my workshop and retreat participants.
The guided imagery techniques shared in this book are easy to read, simple to follow and highly beneficial. Whether you are looking for a way to go more deeply into your own inner work, or leading others through this work, you will find this book an excellent resource. |
