A Good 1st Effort From Unloco,

First things first...their drummer Pedro (...) rules on this cd, you can hear him loud and clear, i think thats great. Another thing i like about this album is the straight rock sound that Unloco has on both of their albums. The flaw of this cd is some of the lyrics, but hey its their 1st cd. So yea, great drums, and a very nice bass solo on "Panic" (one of my favs)1.Useless: Great song, really original i like how it just starts out w/ no delay, good stuff. Joey's lyrics are really good in this song also. One of my favs. 2.Clean: Its an ok song...the first example of generic lyrics, and the weird techno beat intro thing is kinda pointless. But yea, decent song. 3.Niave: I really like this song, the verse blend right into the chorus, really agressive vocals and lyrics, heavy guitars. I really like this one. Another fav of mine. 4.Face Down: I really enjoyed the lyrics to this song, its something i can relate to. Once again great playing by each member, still havent forgot Pedro (Pete). A fav. 5.Far Side: A decent song, the vocals and lyrics at the end are awesome though. 6.Panic: Almost a rapping thing going on w/ the vocals. Really awesome bass solo at the beginning. The chorus is pretty nice. 7.Nothing: A really heavy, aggressive song. I like the screams from Joey, its got everything you'd want in a heavy song. A semi-fav. 8.Know One: Sounds like youre riding a horse. The instruments all blend together to make it. It's a good song, lyrics need work but hey its their first cd like i said before. 9.Less Of: a bit of a misleading song, you think its gonna be a slower one, but once it hits the chorus youre launch into a heavy song. Dope playing, nice screams, i like it. 10.Reckoning: I really like the verses to this song. But the chorus has got repetitive lyrics, but hey its alright. i like the "i'm not God but i can be". 11.Whimper: Its kinda like "Reckoning" but its got a dope little "rapping" section at the end which makes up for it. But yea, Pedro's still goin. 12. Bystander: The longest song of the cd, but i didnt get bored listening to it. trademark Unloco sound, i like the vocals in this one and the verses. So yea, all around its a dope cd, good for their 1st cd. Its always fun to see how a band grows.

I've had this Cd for awhile and I have to say I like this better than Unloco's other album "Becoming i". Both are awesome though and if you like this one please be sure and check out thier other cd. As for my review I say that this band has been extremely underated and buried for much to long. They aren't the most innovative band in the world but thier music will get you rocking like no other. My personal favorite tracks are probably "Panic" and "Face Down". All the tracks are awesome though. If you are a modern rock fan give Unloco a chance I think they are worth a listen. :)

An excellent, often over-looked debut,

Looking back on things, now that the band has broken up, it's hard to see why Unloco never really achieved true success. When they came out in 2001, other like-minded bands (Papa Roach, P.O.D., Disturbed, Linkin Park, etc. etc.) had broken through into the mainstream, and it seemed like a perfect time for Unloco to make their mark. Unfortunately, after their second album failed to make a mark, the band split up and all we are left with is two albums of theirs to choose from. This effort, "Healing," is in my opinion, the better of the two. More original than most nu-metal bands out there, Unloco combine grinding riffs with emotional lyrics and melodic singing. "Nothing" and "Useless" show the more abrasive side of their music, while the single "Face Down" shows the band at a softer pace, and serves as one of the key points of this album. "Far Side" and "Naive" also come to mind as favorites, but the album is solid all the way through. Try not to overlook this band just because of their somewhat cliched nu-metal name or what bands they may get clustered with. I do, however, recommend this album before their last one, "Becoming I." "Healing" is simply an excellent album that any rock fan can appreciate.

I was sitting there on the couch scoping out new stuff on MTV X when Unloco came on... I must say, I liked it. It should have reminded me of other bands, but they didn't. It was the first time I've ever heard of them and I thought they were pretty neat. I was immediately drawn in by the lead singer, and then noticed how much heart the whole band contributed. I really felt like they were putting their souls into their work, and I admire bands like that. Some bands take their fame for granted, whereas it looks like these guys are working tooth and nail to get their due rewards. I think, given the right ops, this band could make a name for themselves.

When putting in this cd, i recall seeing the band live at the canyon club, with Factory 81, Downset, etc. I thought they were great, and really stood for themselves on the stage. When they told us that their cd was coming out on March 20, I was sure to run and buy it. When listening to it, I realized how simplistic the music really was, and that most of it has been done before. The first six songs on the cd are pretty lame, and repetitive. But, when my favorite song on the cd, "Nothing" started up, the cd quickly redeemed itself. From then on, nothing but good songs came out of, "Healing." The singer sounds like Scooter from Cold, Aaron from Staind, and Gavin Rossdale from Bush at the same time. The band, on the other hand, is rather straight-forward, like most nu-metal bands. Listen before you buy, and chances are you'll enjoy it for awhile

A Breakthrough Album,
By
This review is from: Healing (Audio CD)
This is one of the most original albums I have heard. It's a shame they lost that with their follow-up album. Anyway, this is a great album. Their songs are structured creatively, and each song is different. Unique! There is not one bad song on this album. And the lyrics are not generic! They are catchy and original and make you think. But that can be a bad thing, because radio-people don't want to think. That's probably why Unloco didn't become popular with this album. But if you want to break from the mainstream, pick this album up. Some Top-Picks are: Useless, Clean, Face Down, Nothing.

I think starting off with the negative might make it easier for future buyers. The CD case was slightly damaged (cracks in the case and a chunk missing from the frame) and that's it. Now for the actual review. I think Unloco's sound changed quite a bit between Healing and Becoming i. For those who don't have their second and sadly final CD, I would highly recommend picking it up.
As for Healing, the CD begins very well. Useless is the opening track and sets the pace for the rest of the album. Clean begins with an electronic beat and progresses to driving patterns between verses and chorus. Naive and Face Down are two of my favorite tracks on Healing and demonstrates Joey Duenas' vocal talents. Far Side has a small solo bass riff by Victor Escareno and has powerful lyrics. Panic is another for those listening for the bass playing. The opening riff grabs the listener and then throws them into a combination of nearly rapping and shouts from Joey. Nothing offers a straight forward beat and strong guitar chords. Know One (note the spelling) has a more alternative sound to it and is pretty catchy if you ask me. Less Of is a track that I haven't paid to much attention to, but it fits in well with the rest of the album. Reckoning's lyrics "I'm not God" are attention getting as well and is worth a listen or many. Whimper is my personal favorite due to the drums and guitar duo as well as the lyrics. Bystander is the last track and also the longest. The song starts quiet and progresses to a louder sound that is a little different from those before it. The overall sound of this track concludes the whole thing well. I think this is a great by as the title says and anyone who look rock would enjoy this. Unloco fan's should have this one as its only one of two works by the Texas band.

I haven't listened to this CD is quite some time, but after pillaging through my CD's for something new to listen to I came across it and decided to give it another listen. I was shocked at how much I had missed. There are a few tracks that stand out here as really worth the purchase (and by now I'm sure you could grab this for just a few bucks) tracks like 'Clean' and 'Naive'...'Whimper' is another favorite as well as 'Panic' and 'Less Of' and the opener and single 'Useless' really sets the right tone here. Great cd.
