Book Description

This autobiographical account traces the history of an incest survivor and her subsequent recovery process. It is recommended reading for counsellors and therapists, and should provide encouragement to those experiencing similar self-discovery. A candid account of some of the long-term effects of incest, it highlights the sort of problems which can arise for the survivor. The reader is invited to follow the recovery process, including an analysis of the important role of therapists in creating a healthier oulook on adult life. The book raises issues of race, sexuality, promiscuity, family loyalty, friendship and religion.

As a relative of Ms.Pennacchia I not only found her book a great tale of fiction, but also quite sad for the astonishing inadequecy of her therapist. As a female cousin, who spent a great deal of time with her and her family I can only say that NOTHING like what she discribes ever happened. If anyone in our family was vunerable to abuse it was me. And nothing even close to that ever happened. Ms. Pennacchia's father was one of the most amazing, giving, and most beautiful person that I have ever known. While he did battle many demons with his bi-polar disorder, he remain loyal to those he loved. At the end of Ms. Pennacchia's fairy tale she claims that she was abused by many people in her family and tried to sue them, but could not because too much time had passed. While she did send letters out to 2 family members ( On Christmas Eve no less[ which was her Father's FAVORITE holiday!] claiming abuse, the case was never pursued because there WAS NO CASE!!!! Out of 25 cousins, who were all willing to testify on our families behalf that no instance of inappriopriate behavior ever happened, out of 13 female cousins in our family, only Yvette was abused. Even though there were some of us who were so much more vunerable. When her attorney's heard about this THEY DROPPED HER AS A CLIENT!!!! She is an unstable woman who has been the victim of her therapist. I do believe that Yvette was abused. Most likely by our uncle Marco. Most of our family accepted that and supported her. But the other acusations?????? No way. While our family was far from perfect ( But then again.....whose family is?) It was not the monstrousity Ms. Pennacchia claims it was.
