From Library Journal
This set provides three of Campbell's major audio programs concerning the healing power of sound and music. It is important to understand that these tapes do not offer prescriptions for healing with particular kinds of music. However, Campbell passionately believes that music can assist in that process, which he describes as "finding balance." He encourages each listener to experiment, discover what works, and then continue to learn and grow through time. In session one, "Healing Yourself with Your Own Voice," Campbell recommends making sounds and feeling the vibrations that result and how they affect the body. In the second program, "Healing with Great Music," he details what the work of Alfred Tomatis has shown about how music can help people improve concentration, find physical and emotional balance, reduce stress, and even assist in the treatment of conditions such as dyslexia. Finally, in "Mozart as Healer," he discusses the "Mozart Effect," the ability of certain kinds of music to predictably, but not infallibly, provide certain benefits. The second exercise, recorded before a live audience, suffers from poor audio quality. The author does provide a lot of fascinating and practical information; he is not prescriptive and encourages each person to discover new ways to use his/her voice and explore music. Recommended for public libraries; consumer health collections looking for material on complementary therapies will also want to purchase this. Kathleen Sullivan, Phoenix P.L.
