Great Product for Support (Not for full body weight),
By Free Bird Soaring (Connecticut, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Health Circle Quick-Rail Suction Cup Bath Rail, White, 24" Long (Health and Beauty)
This is a great product to use for support. It is not made to hold or support your entire body weight. I installed this in the shower for support for my 82 year old dad. His shower has 4.25" smooth tiles and it was easy to install and works great. If you plan on installing this product on tile then you must have at least 4" tiles or larger for this product to fit. The body has raised ridges for good grip and the suction cups are really strong. Just make sure to prep the surface properly to get a good connection. I followed the instructions and used rubbing alcohol to clean the tile (I also cleaned the rubber suction cups with the alcohol). It does not damage the surface you attach it too and can be easily moved or repositioned. When moving or repositioning, be very careful to not damage the suction cups or the product may not hold securely.
Here is some information directly from the instructions that you may find helpful: "The Quick Rail is designed for use only on smooth, non-porous surfaces; tile, glass, porcelain, some plastics. Not for use on painted, papered, wood, embossed surfaces, mosaic or embossed tiles. Support surfaces should be sound and free from defects. Do not mount the Quick Rail where it will be in direct sunlight. Check the condition of the suction cups - do not use if damaged, cracked, or split."

This was suggested by my occupational therapist after my knee replacement. After checking the price at a supply store I found the exact same item on Amazon at a considerable savings and it arrived at my door in 2 days. I recently had a 1980's tub enclosure replaced with a walk-in 5' shower tiled from floor to ceiling. I have handicap bars outside the shower and a built-in seat but realized I needed something to add a little more security due to the size of the shower without risking damage to the expensive tile. The device was put into place in minutes by my son and can be removed at any time. (Avoid placing it on a grout line). )The suction clamps hold it tightly with no sign of budging. It's long enough to accommodate most heights and does not detract from the look of the shower. It can easily be moved or removed by releasing the suction clamps at each end.
Update: This may come loose in time due to soap and hot water and one end might not stay gripped. After six months, I removed it and cleaned the tile and suction ends with white vinegar. It has not loosened again in the last 3 months of use. These should never be depended on to support anyone's full weight. They are more for balance and it still works perfectly for me after a year and a half of use.

My son installed this on my tiled bathtub wall for me, grasped the bar and leaned his weight back on it, and it broke in two immediately. I have severe osteoporosis, and if that had happened to me I would likely have broken something, so we are actually grateful if it was going to break it did it then. However, I would not recommend this product to anyone to whom safety and security are important.

I bought the shower version of the suction cup rail; it is a little shorter. It worked fine the first week I used it, at a resort in Williamsburg. Since then, at a second hotel and at home, it has failed to hold onto the tile, even though I carefully followed the instructions on mounting it. It comes off the wall with very little pressure and I am lucky I did not fall on the floor and suffer serious injury. BE VERY CAREFUL USING THIS PRODUCT. IN FACT, I NO LONGER USE IT AT ALL. It is a lesson luckily learned before I was injured . . . or killed.

I have now ordered "3" of these Suction Bath Safety Rails, two for our walk-in shower, one for the area above the bath tub in our other bathroom. These suction devices adhere very tightly even in a moist environment. Our tiles are 4 1/4 inches square and I place the "rail" at an angle.

I purchased this product for my elderly mother to use in my shower and we found that it did not offer the support she needed, also though it had the ribs on it for gripping, they were still slippery.

I bought this for a towel bar and assumed it would be strong enough as it is sold as a safety rail. The problem is my tiles are the small 4" size and the suction cups just barely fit them so if they don't get a good surface they will not hold. I slanted the bar just enough, but still I would not trust this if it was to help stabilize an older person to get in and out of a tub/shower.

We purchased the Health Circle Quick Rail 24" from Amazon. It came as advertised using Amazon Prime in 2 days. The product is excellent in quality, fit and finish. We have 4" tiles and it was advertised to work with 4" tiles. It does but we had to mount it on a slant on our 4" tiles. Because of the length and the excellent ribbing on the grip handle I think I like it better on a slant than if it was horizontal or verticle. Overall there is no question that this product is very well made and will support you in an emergency fall. Just to have it there to balance yourself it is excellent. I recently had ankle surgery and you suddenly realise that a shower is a dangerous place when you are mostly on one leg. This product gets my 5 stars.
We also purchased the MHI Mommy's Helper Safe-er-Grip 17" from Amazon at the same time. We give it 5 stars also. On 4" tiles the MHI product was able to go either verticle or horizontal. It is another 5 star product, well made and substantial. Both of these products when stuck on properly have a solid solid feel that will support you. If I had to choose between these two products I would do it on the length you prefer. We are using them both in the same shower.

I purchased this as a rail for my mother to hold onto while in the shower to help her balance herself. I followed the instructions that came with the product and it worked great! For about 4 hours... Then in the middle of the night there was a loud crash as the bar fell off the inside of the shower wall. I tried again the following day and again after 4 or 5 hours it was laying in the bottom of the tub.
I am in need of something that will stay suctioned to the wall and doesn't need to be placed each time it is being used. Her shower is an insert and can't be drilled into to add a bar. Good idea but not a permanent or even semi permanent solution.

I could not get this to even stay on the wall for more than 24 hours no matter what I did. Let alone rely on it to hold one up.
