Widely known as "The Yellow Book," this concise and user-friendly resource equips both travelers and physicians with essential information on preventing, recognizing, and managing travel-related health problems. Since it comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - the leading authority on infectious disease, public health, and infection control in the U.S. - you can count on it for all the guidance you need to minimize the health risks and discomforts of travel, from immunizations and jet lag to infections and food poisoning.

  • Get dependable advice on any travel health issue from the experts at the CDC, including vaccinations, trip planning and safety tips, health and infection hazards associated with various geographic regions, prevention of a full range of specific infectious diseases, jet lag, motion sickness, sunburn, animal bites, and much more.
  • Make travel plans suited to your specific needs whether you are a disabled or immunocompromised traveler, traveling with infants and young children, while pregnant or breastfeeding, or for international adoptions.
  • Easily see which health risks are most prevalent in a given area thanks to user-friendly color maps.
  • Understand what you need to know with content that's written for general audiences as well as physicians.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"There are very few books that I will keep within reach on my desk when advising travellers. This is definitely one of these. Its size, presentation, contents, tables, maps, and the ease with which I can locate information, make the 'Yellow Book' 2008 a contestant for the number one book on my desk, in my travel clinic."
Dr George Kassianos - British Travel Health Association

REVIEW OF THE LAST EDITION:

"For decades doctors have relied on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 'Yellow Book' to tell travelers things like which malaria pill to take for that trip to Mozambique. Now the CDC is letting everyone in on the fun. For the first time, the book, properly known as Health Information for International Travel, is available to the public. This more user-friendly edition may prove helpful both to primary-care doctors and to travelers themselves. Included are up-to-date recommendations on vaccines and advice on avoiding travel hazards from earthquakes to dog bites." - U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT

BMA Book Awards 2008 - Highly Commended

"Comprehensive and well-referenced drawing on relevant international expertise. Travellers are encouraged to seek health advice at consultation in addition to using the text, which strikes a balance. UK health practitioners will find this book useful to draw other countries' expertise and to enhance current practice. It offers a good starting point from which to develop a wider knowledge of travel health issues."

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable for professionals; helpful for consumers who travel, December 9, 2009
One of the great joys of my life is travel, especially to unusual locations. I purchase this book every five years or so just to keep up on the health risks in various countries around the world, and always find it interesting reading.

Before a trip to Peru two years ago, for example, we learned about acute mountain sickness and the bites of parasitic sand flies. We packed a prescription drug for the mountain sickness, and drank lots of apple juice (a remedy we learned about at Mesa Verde years ago). The apple juice worked its magic and we threw the prescription drugs away last year when the dating expired. Deet pretty much handled the sand flies and we had a wonderful travel experience.

The CDC home page is a great source of current information; this book gives you specific locations to check for many destinations to be sure the user has current information.

It's also wise to double check the US Department of State website, and the even more useful British government site maintained by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

It's all good preventative medicine, and helps keep an rewarding travel experience even more satisfying.

Rock solid information in an easy to navigate format. What else would you expect from the authority? I am very glad that they are continuing to publish this instead of going online only.
