Organizational components of the health care system are presented as are the sources of revenue and methods of paying providers. A review of the system's performance is provided through highlighting its strengths and weaknesses.

About the Author
Larry D. Grieshaber, Ph.D. is Professor of Health Care Management and Coordinator of the Health Care Management Program at Maryville University. He has taught a wide range of courses including Health Care Ethics, International Business, and International Health. He has a number of journal publications in the health care field and is the author of The Healthcare Practitioner's Handbook of Management (St. Lucie Press, 1997). Dr. Grieshaber has been a consultant to a several of healthcare institutions. His clients include a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company. He is currently collaborating with noted sociologist Linda L. Lindsey, Ph.D. on an international health policy text.
