Product Description

Looking for superfoods to keep you healthy and strong? Chia seeds are packed with nutrients, protein, calcium, Omega fatty acids, and fiber. Native Americans found that when you hydrate Chia seeds with the water, the shells open up and the seeds absorb the water. The result is Chia Seed Gel - a super hydrating, filling, and endurance-building gel that contains 90% soluble fiber (great for the digestive track). You can also use these little seeds in baked goods, salads, smoothies, stir-fries, as a thickener in sauces, and an egg replacement in baking. We love our Chia Seeds and stand behind it -- Get a full refund or replacement within 30 days if you are not completely satisfied.

I run ultra marathons. I was having some difficulty getting enough food/fuel into my body during races. I would find myself in the 7-8 hour range of a race and needing more food but unable to scarf down multiple gel packs; frankly you can only eat so many of those things. I consistently consume a gel pack every hour during a race. The gel packs typically have about 100-140 calories. During endurance sports you really need more like 250-400 calories per hour so gels plus sports beverages were not enough.

I've begun training with chia and seen an immediate change. For one, a tablespoon of chia has about 70 calories. I've replaced my gel packs for 5 tablespoons of chia per hour (350 calories). I can feel the higher level of energy about 10 minutes after taking the chia.

The other thing I've found with chia is that it provides my body with better hydration. Typically I drink 20oz of water per 6 miles. After using the chia I find 20 oz of water will last me a little over 10 miles.

To prepare the chia I mix 2 cups of water with 1/3 cup of chia. Let it set in the open air for about 20 minutes stirring periodicaly to make sure all the seeds get soaked. Then I put it in a tuperware and leave it in the fridge overnight (minimum 2 hours).

Overall, I'm very pleased with this little seed. I'll continue training with chia as I prep for upcoming races.

CRG

I rec'd my 1st pound of Chia Seeds on Tuesday morning...started to take the chia seeds that morning, a Tbsp in approximately 10 oz. of H2O. I did this about 15 minutes before eating every meal. By Thursday morning, I ordered a 3 lbs bag of Chia Seeds for fear of running out. By that 3rd day I had more stamina, lost that bloated feeling, and just generally just felt good. Did not and do not feel hungry, also reduced cravings, I wasn't looking for that snack at night. Beware of the jell like consistency when mixed in H2O, if that bothers you, just mix it in your yogert or oatmeal...whatever makes you happy. There are unlimited ways to consume this wonder food. I could go on and on, but, just try it for yourself, you wont be disappointed.

We've ordered Chia seeds from Raw Food before and were very happy, and would buy from them again no questions asked. I thought that's what I was doing this time as well, however for some reason our last shipment was instead filled by a seller named "alive and aware natural health llc". This company has no concept of how to package seeds. 95% of companies use some ziploc type of bag for seeds which works fantastically. Not "alive and aware natural health llc", they use a stiff plastic bag that breaks and spills seeds all over the box, everywhere you carry the box and anywhere else you can go. Its not fun spending hours cleaning chia seeds out of your carpet.

We add Chia to our Kefir-frozen organic berry-Acai-Date-smoothies every morning. We believe they help curb appetite not to mention the Omega 3 boost and regularity. We can't tell they are in the Smoothie unless we add too many which makes Smoothie too thick to draw through a straw. Generally 1 tablespoon per Smoothie does the trick. Apparently the Native Americans used them as a "thickening agent" along with other purposes.
One of Nature's wonders! It's amazing how they develop a slippery clear coating around them when they get wet, as if to protect them from drying out so they can grow into a plant, I assume. ( Look at the "Chia Pet") I don't know for sure and I'm only guessing,...but it seems like that "slippery" characteristic might just be what helps keep the colon clean.

Nutritional benefits of Chia seeds are amazing. Here are a few to start:

*According to studies, Chia possesses the highest percentage of the polyunsaturated fatty acids(linolenic and linoleic) of all crops. Chia seeds contain 60% omega 3 fatty acids.

*The protein content of Chia is higher that other nutritional grains. Unlike other grains, it is a complete protein, meaning that it has the appropriate balance of all essential amino acids. About 19 to 23% of chia seeds weight is protein.

*Chia seeds are high in fiber, a 15 gm serving of chia seeds will provide 4 to 5 gm of fiber. Our body requires at least 35 gm of fiber a day to stay healthy.

*Chia seeds contain boron which is essential for bone health.

*Chia seeds are rich in calcium, about 2 oz of chia seeds contains 600 mg of Calcium, as compared to 120 mg for a cup of milk.

*Chia seeds have 2 times more potassium than banana.

*Chia seeds have 3 times more antioxidants than blueberries

Regardless of the astonishing nutritional values of Chia, it also tastes very good. My girlfriend and I make a big pot of "steel cut" oatmeal at night (the quick way is throw a cup of oats in 4 cups of boiling water and just let it sit overnight), put in a good helping of chia seeds, and the next morning you have a wonderful breakfast that could last all week depending on how many people are eating it. Feel free to add a little cinnamon, peanut butter, fruit, or your own oatmeal favorite additions.

There are many other recipes for eating Chia, but oatmeal is my personal favorite.
