My bad, I guess, but don't waste your money like I did.

I tried it with and without the insert, putting it on different fingers, positioning it differently, and with conducting gel.
O. Hubbs, Education Coordinator, SIU Carbondale, IL
During a workout, I would look at it and one time my heart rate was 148 and 30 seconds later it was 78, and back up again.

The monitor seems to give good readings but not always when walking. I checked it against a heart rate monitor at the gym while doing a workout on the elliptical machine. The readings on the healthsmart monitor were within 10 beats per minute of the elliptical machine. The only problem I noticed was when walking. I seemed to get a consistent readout but at times the rate would drop suddenly from 110 beats/minute down to 70 beats/minute. Not sure why it would do that but it would recover after a few minutes. It could be that it was not making good contact with my finger although I tried holding it pressed to my finger so it would get a good signal. It is a good device and value for getting your heart rate while working out. It seems very consistent. I use it daily during my workouts to make sure I keep my heart rate from going over my target rate.

I'm just starting out with routine workouts & was curious about the effectiveness of my cardio sessions. It works! I use it on thumb, index, or middle finger. This monitor is good because it gives you a steady reading without the annoying chest strap. The reading does jump at times to something really low or really high, but it settles back to normal quickly. I think the reading jumps have to do with the fit. It's already kind of big for girl hands, and when I sweat, it slides around, and I have to cross my fingers to hold it down. You should know that when it says that it beeps to notify you that you are either above or below your desired heart rate zone, it BEEPS. And, it doesn't stop until you get back into your zone. This will either annoy you or motivate you. It doesn't show you your average & max rate like the other more expensive monitors, but that's fine with me for now. The way that you set it is kind of annoying. It only counts up, so if you go past you number, you have to go all the way back around again.

I was looking at various HRMs. I saw this product and thought "oh cool an alternative to chest strap models" that gets good reviews. Then I noticed that the positive reviews I was reading were ones for an Omron model that is a chest strap + watch. It's weird and I don't know how it's possible for this to happen, but somehow this product, and another model of a ring HRM, have managed to hijack positive reviews for other models of heart rate monitors- I've never seen that happen with other products I've looked at. If you take the time to sift through the reviews, the ring actually gets BAD reviews.

I saw a lot of bad reviews for this and was worried about getting it. I was trying to get rid of the last 15 of a gift card so thought w/e no money really lost if it sucks.

The four is because it's a size 9 or 10 ring and stretches to be probably a 12. when my fingers are warm it barely fits my index finger.

mine came and battery did work which was a common complaint.

I also found it to be fairly accurate. after 30 seconds it was 1-2 beats off after a minute it 1-4 beats off. sometimes over and sometimes under. it fluctuates a lot so for running purposes it gives me a close idea of what I am dealing with. I just mostly wonder if I am in the ballpark of cardio or if I am slacking that day.

I bought mine from Brookstone, and normally, their stuff isn't bad, though often priced higher than anywhere else. I got this at the airport, so of course paid the premium price of $40 for it. Even though it did not work correctly, with wide swings in heartrate that made no sense, I could not get a refund because I bought from a retailer, not the actual Brookstone store. I did get to exchange it however, and the new device was no better. I'm going to give it to charity and stop torturing myself with trying to make it perform.

There are those that would tell you that this is not a recommended way to measure heart rate, and it could be partly that, but in my head, the device shouldn't be out there if the technology doesn't work. My bad, I guess, but don't waste your money like I did.

i decided to purchase this product as I am "casual" with my workouts, and was curious where I was at during workout. The first time I put this thing on, (it goes on the index finger) I was slightly annoyed, but it wasn't anything I couldn't deal with. During a workout, I would look at it and one time my heart rate was 148 and 30 seconds later it was 78, and back up again. I tried turning it off and back on again, readjusting it, and different fingers. Didn't help. If I ever decide to buy another one, I will spend a few more dollars for something that works properly.

This doesn't work very good. I have another heart rate monitors to check it and it's precision stinks. There's no way to adjust it to a finger and if you're using it when doing cardio, the slightest movement will make it fail.
