Mind Over Matter,
By Ronald E. Tveitmoe, D.C. (Pinole, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Healthy Computing With Muscle Biofeedback (Paperback)
As I write this on my laptop, I am mindful of tips I learned from this book to prevent the effects of unhealthy body mechanics while working on computers. Pepper and Gibney have managed to take a technical subject and make it easy to understand. The strategies to combat repetitive strain injuries are explained well and easy to apply. Nearly every chapter includes pictures and graphs to really help to illustrate what they are describing. The six appendices contain well referenced sEMG newsletters and other valuable tips on healthy computing. This is a resource that should be read by every doctor that sees computer related conditions as well as every company that puts there employees behind computers. Being proactive with this technology can help prevent many disabling and expensive stress injuries at work.

This review is from: Healthy Computing With Muscle Biofeedback (Paperback)
This is a great source of information on how to use surface EMG to learn how to minimize the risk of repetitive strain injuries while using the computer. There are very few practical books on the use of biofeedback and this is one of the best. The first author, Erik Peper is a past president of the Biofeedback Society of America, and has decades of experience in teaching biofeedback, both to practitioners and to students at San Francisco State University, where he is a professor. He knows how to really teach in a practicaly, helpful way. The book is well laid out, with exercises and plenty of illustrations. It is a useful manual both for interested layman and practitioners who want to work with clients who use computers. The appendix includes additional info on breath training, RSI assessment and prevention and quantitiative protols for assessment and treatment using EMG. |
