5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully indispensable January 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I have read probably dozens of weight loss books in the past year, but Diana Clayton’s ‘5:2 Diet Recipes” is right among the best, staggeringly life-changing books on weight loss I have ever encountered. It is full of actionable information that you can immediately put to good use and start changing your life for the better.

As you probably know, the so-called “5:2: diet” is the process of intermittent fasting—it has been known and practiced by many different religions, albeit under different names. But the principle stays the same: you fast for two non-consecutive days a week and eat normally for the other five. The key point is simple: do not fast during two days in a row to avoid fatigue, and choose those days when you would not be doing much physical work. And contrary to widespread belief: fasting is not actually equal to starving, and knowing the difference is key in ensuring the success of this amazing weight loss regimen.

So why the 5:2 diet regimen? Apparently, as countless proofs indicate, doing so forces or “acclimatizes” the body to re-adjust its metabolism. Moreover, the 5:2 diet also has significant positive improvement on one’s mental and emotional well-being—you think clearly and feel a lot better. What can be a more compelling set of reasons than those to start doing this diet?

Clayton’s book discusses this diet plan in detail. Not only that, but the best aspect of this book is the recipes: meals you can plan and with accurate calorie counts. Note that you get dozens of recipes that you can mix and match, depending on your taste.

Confused by the range of books written about the 5:2 Diet, I chose this one for the attractive cover image. That meal, on the cover, looked like something I would enjoy eating. I chose well. All the recipes are great. The photos are appealing, the ingredients delicious and the techniques to prepare suit my preference for quick, nutritious and delicious cuisine.

I discovered how to make a delicious breakfast on only 100 calories that will suit me, as several times a week I naturally feel inclined to eat light. With only a slight modification I have learnt, through this book, how I can alter my usual 300 calorie breakfast to 100 calories on those occasions when I seek to eat lighter. The variation ,being high fiber topping, will assist me to feel full and contented.

I liked that reference was given to a reputable research establishment to back one of the health claims given for this style of eating plan. I tend to pitch books that make health claims without reporting a reputable source for the claim. There is so much quackery in the food and health industry all claims need to backed up by the reference. Full marks to the author for giving the reference for health benefit claims and credit to the origin of the 5:2 Diet for those who seek to read further into this eating plan.

Yesterday I went to the grocery store and looked at the frozen meal selection for low calorie meals. I won’t say the name but I’m sure you know what brand I am referring to-I just couldn’t bring myself to buy the meals as they are bland and skimpy. Been there done that and just am not satisfied after eating one of those meals.

I went online and found this book. Looking at just a couple of the recipes swayed me to push the “buy” button. The recipes are for real people and they look excellent.

I’m making the chicken thighs and slaw recipe tonight. The Thai crab cakes are next on my list. These are real meals that my husband and I can enjoy now and then throughout the week.

To be blunt- I can give him double (or triple ) the portion and I can stick with my allotted low calorie portion. No one but me knows how low cal these recipes are- they sure don’t look like they are.

To me this is a better plan than trying to eat a low cal entrée from a box while watching my husband eat a tasty meal that I made for him.

I’m not on the 5:2 Diet. I had never heard of it until I was looking for low calorie recipes. I just wanted some good low calorie recipes that were better than the low calorie frozen food options at the grocery store. I’m more than glad that I came across this book. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars great book. January 11, 2014

the advice given in this book fits my work schedule perfectly, five days on 2 days off. the recipes are sensible and delicious, I would not have thought low calorie meals could be so delicious, these recipes are simply ingenious. I also like the advice given on light exercise since at my age strenuous work outs are no longer what I am looking for. there are plenty of items in here that can be prepared quickly as well which is convenient. simple, easy to prepare, and delicious. this is a good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy, Helpful and Informative January 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
The low calorie meals in Diana Clayton's 'The 5.2 Fast Diet Book' certainly meet the description of 'easy, healthy, delectable...'. In fact I would have gobbled them off the pages if I could. This encouraging cookery book, for people who struggle to diet, and who want to try the ground-breaking 5.2 diet, is highly recommended. Even as a non-dieter, the introduction did make me think about the health benefits of having calorie light days.

Structured in an intelligent, friendly and useful way, one can quickly plan what to eat on the two days each week that you're going to eat lightly. Each recipe is introduced, and there are plenty of tips - and guilty pleasures!

The photographs in this generous 110 page book are excellent, and create the desire to start cooking! Happily the preparation times are indeed fast; also the cooking times.

There are other book recommendations at the end, and room for notes. Among the recipes that I jotted down as 'really must eat/drink' are 'Provencal Beef and Aubergine Bake', and 'Carrot and Celery Juice with Almonds'; and - hurrah, a yummy sounding recipe for those leftover turkey pieces in the freezer - 'Turkey Burgers with Beet and Apple Sauce'.
