Great guide to starting ANY fitness program, March 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Healthy Heart Walking Book (Spiral-bound)
Like many folks, I had always found it impossible to stick with an excercise program. This book was the turning point for me -- I started an excercise program 13 months ago using this book and I'm still at it! Despite the title, this is really a book for getting activity into your life, not necessarily walking. This book helps you identify what "barriers" are keeping you from excercising, how to deal with these barriers, motivating yourself to keep going, measuring your progress by something other than the bathroom scale, etc. There are short worksheets such as a "Lapse Attack Plan" to help you develop solutions for situations which keep you from excercising. I've seen bits and pieces of this type of information elsewhere, but this book pulls it all together. Hey, the girl who always hated gym class finally actually *likes* to excercise!
