Book Description

November 15, 2002 The Healthy Hedonist
Described as the health book for people who aren't perfect--and don't want to be, this book is a new approach to preventive healthcare, based on sensual self-indulgence. Topics covered reveal how to: exercise with less exertion; discover healthy, delicious snack foods; sleep better; stay on top of work-related stress and enjoy spa luxury in your own home. Scientifically based, indexed and annotated, with recipes and resources by an iconoclast health communicator and activist who knows that becoming more healthy can be wonderfully pleasurable!

About the Author

Health and lifestyle advocate Janet Bridgers is uniquely qualified to articulate a new approach to preventive health. A fun-loving communicator, philosopher, environmentalist, and social trend-spotter, she brings a fresh perspective to health maintenance by advocating a program of Healthy Hedonism—a way to stay relaxed and healthy in a world that is anything but!

A Summa cum laude graduate from the University of New Mexico, with a double major in English and French, Janet Bridgers began a career in media relations 23 years ago working primarily on behalf of major healthcare companies, healthcare product manufacturers and healthcare practitioners.

An ardent environmental activist, Janet and her husband have been involved in media-related environmental projects since 1981 with significant contributions in the areas of marine mammal protection, recycling, coastal water quality and currently, wetlands protection.

In 1999, she established Detox.org as the intersection between health and environment, with over 100 pages of information on how personal detoxification can reinforce health.

The Healthy Hedonist project began in January 2001.

3.0 out of 5 stars You have to be a self-employed hedonist who likes getting up early..., August 6, 2006
This review is from: The Healthy Hedonist (Paperback)
....live in a climate where bad weather is rare, and preferably be a vegetarian, for this plan to work for you.

That said, I liked the book, and I think I'd like the author if I ever met her. But the thing is, I work a 9-to-5 office job, and I'm emphatically NOT a morning person. I'm not going to get up early enough to have time to eat a piece of fruit, then go for a walk, then come back and make a fruit smoothie...all before I get dressed and groomed appropriately for work and head out to the office. Not gonna happen.

Also, the author lives in California, blessed with year-round good weather. I live in Virginia, where it's cold and icy in winter, hot and humid in summer. It's not very conducive to going outside for walks all year round.

Yeah, I'm complaining about stuff like getting up early and bad weather, but I AM a hedonist, after all. [LOL] I will give the author this: she has a GREAT fruit smoothie recipe!
