Color Name: Blonde/White Chocolate 8.5
I'm a graying 50 something gal who has been overall highlighting and bleaching her hair for years....OK...decades. Highlighting the new gray areas has taken it's toll on the condition and left me with some extra white, over-processed areas and lots of breakage. While browsing the hair products at the store, the lovely lady on the box caught my eye. I liked her shade of blonde very much. Yes, I was a bit concerned about using the product on such a head of various conditions and shades, but one day I decided I needed a *lift* as all girls do from time to time and figured I'd give it a shot. It does smell unusual and can have a bit of a sticky texture but what the heck.....I put it on the roots for a few minutes then massaged it thoroughly through the ends. Oops, I got caught up with Facebooking and left it on a bit longer than the suggested 10 minutes. Ran in rinsed, applied the enclosed conditioner and boy, my stomach was in knots awaiting the final results. OMGoodness! It was exactly the shade on the box!....The porous ends had not taken in more color than the other sections and the gray was virtually gone! It felt like baby hair and shined like glass! Will I use it again?!?! You betcha! In fact I'm considering never coloring with anything else again ever! For me, that's HUGE!!!!

Color Name: Chestnut Brown/Spiced Truffle 5CB
I've used this color ever since it was introduced on the market. I mainly use the dark chestnut shades because they come out so rich, and so shiny, and truly healthy looking. After a few years though, I got bored of this colour so I decided to go with a lighter, cooler brown colour, like a light cool ash brown, and that's when the disasters started. My roots turned orange, and the rest of my hair turned a dark rusty colour, nowhere near the nice ashy medium brown I chose. In order to fix it, I bought the chestnut color again and it turned out ok, a bit lighter at the roots but it fixed the orange and the rust. But, that's not what what I wanted. I wanted to lighten my hair to light brown. So I went to the hair dresser and she could not get the rust out of my hair using double ash so she gave me a really dark, almost black brown. Again, that's not what I wanted. The hair salon said that the problem is the hair color I used at home.

So I called L'Oreal and explained my situation. The rep. said that although the product is not permanent, doesn't contain ammonia, and it washes out in 28 shampoos, it does contain PEROXIDE. So what it did was it bleached my hair to a rusty orange colour so that the chestnut color could go on top. The L'Oreal rep. said that peroxide is permanent and the only way to get rid of it is to grow out your hair and cut it. Now I did not expect that from a non-permanent, wash out in 28 shampoos haircolor and i wanted to write this review to let everyone know that this haircolor makes a PERMANENT change to your hair and you can't fix it. It's PEROXIDE, or in other words BLEACH. I got this information from a L'Oreal rep.

Color Name: Cool Chestnut Brown/Iced Chocolate 4AR Verified Purchase
I use this haircolor in the chestnut brown/iced chocolate color. I have been coloring my hair close to 10 years and previously my brand was Clairol's Nice and Easy. I got a coupon for this new line of haircolor, so I tried it out. Like many users on here, the first time I used the haircolor, I followed the instructions, applied it, and waited 10 minutes until rinsing it out. My hair, too, turned out almost black, I was shocked. I found out that I was leaving it on too long for my hair. My hairstylist told me that since I color my hair regularly, my hair is more porous and can easily become over-saturated with color.

Anyway, the next time I dyed my hair with this product, I first applied it to my roots and then combed it through to the ends of my hair. Since this haircolor works so fast, 10 minutes, I included application time into the total processing time. It takes me about 5 minutes to apply the haircolor, then I start warming up the shower to rinse it out, taking about another 3-5 minutes. My hair now turns out just like the color on the box. Because this haircolor works so fast, it may be easy to leave it on too long and oversaturate your hair. If this happens, try leaving it on less time the next time you color your hair until you find the time that works for your hair texture.

This is now my haircolor of choice and I just subscribed for auto-delivery. The color fades naturally over about 6 weeks for me, and this gradual fading makes my roots less noticeable. My hair is also shinier and more manageable than it was when I was using permanent hair dye. With the permanent hair dye, I was still coloring about every 6 weeks because my roots ( I have naturally dirty blonde hair) would really stand out against the brunette color.

Color Name: Medium Blonde/Vanilla Crème 8
Tried this last night on a whim.. Can't afford to have my roots done right now or drop everything and go to a salon since I am working all the time. I am naturally a very dark blonde, almost looks brown. Usually have the stylist weave in a lighter color using highlighting foils, then paint a slightly darker color on the rest of my hair to create depth otherwise it looks like a wig. Then toner. Without toner my hair is really brassy. $200 every time, 2-3 hours at the salon and I have loads of trouble finding someone to do what I want-- which I don't understand, because it's really simple.

After a stressful hour in Walgreens last week, I finally chose this one [L'Oreal Healthy Look Creme Gloss Color, Medium Blonde 8] because the box photos seemed the closest to my own current hair color and I figured it was a good standard and not too light. Would blend better. I also wanted semi-permanent rather than permanent..

Did a strand test at home by mixing up a little bit in a cup and soaking a good 1-inch chunk of both roots and hair then set the timer. Gave it a little over ten minutes, then rinsed. Roots had magically lifted until they nearly matched the rest of my hair, and weren't brassy! Had self-toned somehow. It did seem to dull down my current color a bit [perhaps a little darker] so I mixed up the rest of the color and just attacked the roots.

My only real mistake was starting at the front/top and leaving the whole back/hairline on my neck for last. Should have been the other way around. I ended up leaving the color on for just short of 15 minutes, and started to get nervous so I rinsed. I have had many bad college experiences of dyeing my hair from a box kit at 3 a.m. with disastrous results.
