5.0 out of 5 stars great advice July 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Helen Bairstow has put together a well-researched and easy to read book that calls on her specialised training and experience as a natural skin care practitioner. She shares her tried and tested methods of improving the health and appearance of your skin from top to toe, from the inside and on the outside, with minimum use of potentially harmful cosmetic products. This book changed my approach to skin care. The principles complemented the healthier lifestyle choices I was making, and putting them into practice is easy. Give Helen's methods a try if you value your health, want a less expensive option than most cosmetic regimes, and have given up believing the hype and false promises of the big manufacturers. This book promises healthy skin secrets, and it delivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best skincare book December 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Over time I have purchased loads of beauty books. Some were somewhat helpful but none were empowering. I didn't have a ton of faith when I read the book. But, decided to give it a try. Within 7 days I could see a difference in my skin. For the price of one product from the department store you can have all you need to care for your skin. It is wonderful being in control of what is going on your skin.

This is easy quick skincare which yelds results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Information I've been digging to find! June 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am so grateful that someone finally came out and discovered all this information. I have suffered from skin issues since I hit puberty, now I am 30 years old. I finally realized that I am also slightly OCD about my skin. It is embaressing to admit, but I spend hours cleaning my face and picking at my face. I know its bad and I know that the first thing people see is your face. I am ashamed that Ive been doing this for so long. I've finally set somewhat of a stopwatch on my phone, I'm curious to see if I can be consistent with my routine and notice a change over a 28 day cycle. Helen does a really impressive job of explaining the human biology of the skin down to the cellular level. It helps you visualize what is actually going on. Once you realize her discovery of what actually softens your lips, as oppose to "chapstick", because, yes, everyone is addicted to chapstick and there is no advertising of what really works- you will also see there are soo many other embedded secrets that are just not advertised. I have literally been DIGGING to find out the truth to skin therapy and what we're really supposed to do. I felt so incredibly defeated by the time I started reading this. This is the real deal, people with skin issues are the MOST vulnerable. They will do anything to have good skin, which is why we always get suckered into scams and products that are more harmful than helpful. This book is one of a kind!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, Inexpensive and it Works August 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is a concise, simple to understand explanation of how our skin works.
The simple and mostly cost FREE methods to keeping your skin young, healthy and glowing are hard to believe. The tips and methods are so easy that you actually do them.
I find that when Buy expensive products - they sit there because it is too much trouble and a lot of work - different creams and lengthy processes.
You will also understand why most products are actually bad for your skin.
This book is a must read - it will not only save your skin - It will save you a fortune in products.

Easy and pleasant reading,

Really works as a manual to restoring the natural beauty of your skin.
I put the exfoliation , compress and jojoba ending to test and was really astounded by the positive effects right the first time I did the procedure

Hope to read her book on her cancer journey when she writes it!

I heartedly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Healthy Skin Secrets ( Great Book) February 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is by far the best book I have purchased from ebooks. I could not stop reading it. I am an Esthetician, and I am always reading anything that has to do with skin beauty and health from oils, creams, food, and how to make most of them myself. My skin is supper sensitive and in the last 4 years it seems as though it has gone through a bad transition. It seems as though I woke one morning looked in the mirror and noticed so many wrinkles and my jaws had dropped some. I know I lost some weight that I had gained do to stress but WOW my problems were not just my weight loss that caused all the problems I was having. My skin is so dry and on my face I have scaly patches, and so many new skin issues that I just did not know what to do. I went to see so many Doctors with no answers except that my problem is being caused by an internal problem. This book has given me so much information that will help me in my path to a healthier lifestyle. The only downside was that the Author stated that some of her lists could be downloaded and printed, but when I went to her site to see if I could join her in discussion of future books and to print the info, I was surprised to see all she had was adds for other company's . Aside from that I love her book and am looking forward to her next recipe book.

More About the Author

In 1983 I became a skin and beauty therapist. Eventually owning three beauty businesses which gave me access to insider information ... but I didn't like what I saw.

I started to question the manufacturers about the ingredients in the products I was recommending and selling. In the late eighties I discovered aromatherapy (when people didn't even know what the word meant!). While studying to become a clinical aromatherapist in London I began to see how natural ingredients were more effective AND less damaging to your skin AND your health. Using my skin as a laboratory I investigated how nutrition and natural therapies can make a positive difference to the health of your skin. I became VERY disillusioned with the beauty industry. I could not live a lie any longer and in 1997 we sold-up and left the beauty industry behind and took a different career path. In 2001 I started a marketing company, never wanting anything to do with the 'ugly' "beauty" industry. But my friends wanted their skin to look like mine and pestered me for my 'skin secrets' which lead to a book being written about what I had learned about the beauty industry rip-offs. Titled "If You Want Great Skin, Throw Away Your Cosmetics", it was published as a hard copy book in 2004 but seems people were not yet ready to hear this information. Seems they loved their fancy jars of stuff too much - seriously. So I went on with life...

My husband (and childhood sweetheart) 'thought' we could not have children but at the age of 40 I gave birth to a beautiful boy. Being a parent has you see how trivial some things are, things that we 'thought' were important really aren't at all. Being 'older' parents we thought we'd do some travelling while still young which had us touring around Australia for two and half years. Want to get closer to your family? Try living in a caravan for 2 years!

You know those moments in time that change your life? We had a MAJOR one in November 2010 when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Luckily I was extremely healthy BEFORE I began the chemotherapy which made it easier for me to heal, possibly the reason I survived - as I had a 10% chance of survival! (I'll write a book about 'that' journey one day.)

In the meantime ... here I am, living in gorgeous Cairns Australia giving thanks and gratitude for life. It's so very precious.
