Book Description

June 1, 2011
We're living longer, but our quality of life isn't necessarily any better. With equal measure of easy-to-read physiology, wit, and practicality, Healthy, Sexy, Happy veers away from unhealthy conventional dietary and lifestyle wisdoms and shows how to unite the mind, body, and spirit for long-term vitality.

Derived from her extensive research for her book Death by Supermarket, Nancy Deville provides a series of straightforward, no-nonsense guidelines that show you how to take control of your health. This comprehensive program address topics such as accelerated aging and how to avoid it, how to properly care for and nourish your brain, managing insomnia, practicing self-compassion, and the appropriate exercise levels for all ages.

Whether you are a twenty-year-old who can't wake up without four cups of coffee and a cigarette, a depressed thirty-five-year-old with no sex drive, or someone later in life free-falling into old age, Healthy, Sexy, Happy shows you how to redefine your sense of well-being in a toxic world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read! August 20, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I have been fighting this factory food crap for a very long time! My son, who is about to eight this month, was born three months premature weighting in at two pounds and two ounces! The doctors prepared me for the worst of a slew of complications developmentally. I said not if I can help it! We worked with him and fed him a balanced diet! (This how I found Nancy Deville's book, DBSM) as I was on a quest to give him every opportunity to succeed! Today, he is the top of his class entering into second grade and reading at almost a fifth grade level. He is also in the gifted talented pool. It has been a struggle to educate my friends and family getting them to jump on board! Snacks at my house are fruits and veggies. Absolutely no soda's! Homemade lemonade us their favorite!

For those of you who say, I don't have time to put this effort into home cooking meals from scratch, I say bull. I work full time with an hour commute to and from work. I do most of my canning and cooking as I am preparing the evening meal. If I can do it on my limited time schedule then anyone can. No excuses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative Book that Could Save Your Life September 15, 2011
Format:Hardcover
The more articles I read and the more TV segments I see about how the majority of our food is not good for us, and some literally poisoning us, the more disgusted I get. I was happy to come across this book which provides thorough information different from the norm with plenty of resources to back up the facts about how sick some of us actually are and what we can do to change it. While I originally wanted to read Healthy, Sexy, Happy for the information about food and nutrition, it also contains great information about exercise, sleep, and stress. Thanks to Nancy's book, I have more tools in my arsenal to become healthier, sexier and happier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Healthy, Sexy, Happy Book Review September 13, 2011
Format:Hardcover
The day I got this book in the mail, I sat down on the couch to take a peak at what was between the covers. In the preface, the author mentioned that she was 60, so I flipped over the book, to check her out. I almost fell off the couch! Staring back at me was a blonde bombshell that looked more like she was in her early 40s. I quickly started to read this book!

Author Nancy Deville's mantra is not "you will live longer" - she is realistic that we all age and make adjustments to self-care and self-image as we do. She does believe, however, that dying a painful death from a prolonged illness living out our golden years in a rapidly decaying body is preventable. Healthy, Sexy, Happy is her formula for how to do that by learning 12 skills, from getting really educated about weight loss and how the body functions, to getting off factory foods, to sleep, to weight-loss.

And while all these skills will sound familiar, Ms. Deville's take on it is interesting. For example, the chapter on sleep is a must-read of tips of how she conquered her own insomnia, long after getting food-healthy. There is a lot of information about the biomedical processes, something you know I'm interested to help my children. Healthy, Sexy, Happy, however, gives very similar information for the grownup who wants to improve, inside and out. I already knew about the dangers of pasteurized milk, but she explains it very well and advocates for raw milk. I felt more comfortable reading the chapter, "Ultimate Skill No. 2: Stop Eating All Factory-produced Food", after my experience this summer watching a little overweight girl "pet" a bottle soda on display at "BadFoodMart".

4.0 out of 5 stars A good reminder to take care of ourselves September 11, 2011
By Ashley
Format:Hardcover
A while ago, I posted about my goal to lose my last ten pounds before the end of October. So far, I've lost three of those ten pounds and could not be more excited. Which is a big part of why I was really excited to read Healthy Sexy Happy by Nancy Deville.

Nancy starts out by discussing her upbringing and how unhealthy the food that was put on the table was during her childhood. Throughout the book, you can see the transformations that she made once she was out on her own with the help of her Grandmother. Nancy goes on to talk about how poor the food industry is now and why children are more unhealthy today than they were years ago, mostly due to the kinds of foods they are consuming.

There are basically twelve commandments that Nancy suggests following that range from understanding weight loss and accelerated aging, eating a proper diet while exercising enough, detoxing your entire life, and so much more. While some of her methods may be considered to be controversial, she provides an insightful look on steps that can be taken to ensure that you live the life you want to live and die peacefully.

This book provides a good reminder to take care of ourselves in multiple ways, including what we consume and to think about how we want to live out the rest of our days on a daily basis.
