The recipes are great and tasty - easy to prepare and never fail to please the palette.

This cookbook is well designed and the photography is luscious and mouthwatering. I highly recommend this book for all kitchens and gift-giving occassions.

3.0 out of 5 stars Healthy Southwestern Cooking
This cookbook is great, we love southwestern food and most of it is loaded with fat and salt, all the reciepes are great with taste and health in mind, reducing the fat and salt in the food actually enhanced the taste, more of the true tastes of the food, recently after eating out at our favorite resturant, I could taste the salt in the food and it didn't taste as good as...

"The real appeal of the cookbook is the content..." ...For those who may be a little intimidated by the prospect of cooking with chiles, Wiseman assures cooks they control how hot the dish will be. For the uninitiated, he includes a complete explanation of the chiles and spices used in the cookbook and a guide to mail order sources for Southwestern ingredients...Each recipe has nutritional information regarding calories, cholesterol and sodium. 5.0 out of 5 stars This book should have been on the market sooner!, August 4, 1996

Wiseman has done a masterful job of creating a low sodium & low calorie cookbook. The many "heart symbols" (AHA approved logo) shows the care and genuine interest that went into the writing. For those of us who like New Mexico style cuisine yet still must maintain a health concious diet Healthy Southwestern Cooking fills the bill. I hope he writes a sequel. Robert Glenn, cookbook critic

5.0 out of 5 stars Time for another version, Wiseman.... Get too it!, February 27, 2003
By A Customer

What a great book. It's been on my list of favorites since it first came out. Now that I've used up all the recipes - and some are my all-time favorites - I would like to see another on the same subject. By the way, when will Wiseman find a way to devise low-fat tamale recipes? Maybe the publisher should tell him to "Get after it, boy."

Just another believer in the power of the chile pepper.

2.0 out of 5 stars title misleading, August 10, 2010
This review is from: Healthy Southwestern Cooking (Cookbooks and Restaurant Guides) (Paperback)
The recipes in this book are delicious but they are wonderful because they are mostly high in fat, salt, calories and carbohydrates: ie all the elements we love.
There are precious few " heart healthy "recipes (30?) and even some of the heart healthy ones have high salt eg the tomato and cottage cheese soup has 415 mg sodium.
I feel the title is misleading.
Foods ARE delicious but I did want what the title said :less salt and less fat......

Looking for low salt recipes and didn't feel they for very low. Also, most ingredients were not in my pantry. Too much prep time.
