5.0 out of 5 stars The one book on menopause that all women should have!
This book has been a terrific guide to have on hand to help me anticipate and begin navigating through these critical stages of my life. It's like having a gynecologist as a best friend to whom you can spend hours asking question after question, and walk away feeling informed, empowered and reassured. What is especially helpful is that not only is the information...

1.0 out of 5 stars This book gives little hope for menopause sufferers
I have been reading several books on menopause and this ones gives lots of information but really has nothing positive to say about any of the possible options. While it does list alternative therapies such as vitamins and "natural" treatments, they are quick to say that there have been no tests to prove that ANY of them are worth trying as they have not been proven in...

This book has been a terrific guide to have on hand to help me anticipate and begin navigating through these critical stages of my life. It's like having a gynecologist as a best friend to whom you can spend hours asking question after question, and walk away feeling informed, empowered and reassured. What is especially helpful is that not only is the information extensive, well-organized and easy for the lay-person to understand, but the scope of information goes beyond the purely medical to the everyday concerns like diet, exercise and relationships. I've purchased several copies of this book and have given them as gifts to family and friends; it's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone going through perimenopause, May 13, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Healthy Transitions: A Woman's Guide to Perimenopause, Menopause, and Beyond (Paperback)
After looking through many books on perimenopause, I found this to be one of the most comprehensive and the easiest to read. The book is very balanced and gave me a much better picture of the issues that we face as we go through perimenopause and the evidence for the different remedies available to help. The authors cover hormones, natural remedies, and other therapies in a way that I could clearly understand what we do and don't know about them and what the advantages and disadvantages of using the different approaches. I felt that the book was right on the mark in so many areas. It was really helpful because I was having problems with my periods and when I went to see my doctor, I already knew what to expect and what tests would be done and why. It helped greatly ease my mind because I felt so much better prepared. This is definately a book to keep on hand as a reference.

This book is exceptionally well written. The authors have taken complex topics and have explained them in down-to-earth terms. Any woman going through this adventure can find herself on these pages and understand what and why things are happening as they are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a user friendly guide to menopause!, February 25, 2004

Dr's Kim and Shulman have written a medical book in practical yet precise terms. Each chapter presents an area of concern that real women have during this transition in their lives. Even though this is the 21st century, there is much misinformation about menopause. The doctors have offered women a realistic guide thru one of the inevitable changes in our lives. I recommend it to women of all ages. Armed with accurate information we can optimize decisions and choices about our healthcare.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for women going through the "change"!, June 28, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Healthy Transitions: A Woman's Guide to Perimenopause, Menopause, and Beyond (Paperback)
This book is a lot like a "What to Expect When You're Expecting" for those of us going through menopause. It's so easy to read and to find whatever information you need about pretty much anything having to do with menopause and the time leading up to it (which I now know is called "perimenopause"). Every woman going through the change should get this book!

As a doctor and a woman of menopausal age, I thought this was a great help for me as well as for anyone who is interested in woman's health. It is a very well thought out and organized in such a way with great content, so that it should become a "must have" in anyone's self help bookshelf. I learned a great deal from it and I will recommend it to my family, friends, and to patients!

I highly recomend this book, Healthy Transitions, by Dr. Edmund S. Kim. I shared this book with my other church friends and advocate it to all women. I especially enjoyed the section on What's With My Moods? Ch. 4 in the book.

Dr. Kim has done a beautiful job of expressing this period in
a woman's life. He has missed nothing in the details of
describing what women go through during this time. The book
is thoughtful, sensitive, humorous and certainly timely. Kudos
to Dr. Kim for his insightful portrayal of women as we transition
from our young years to a more mature phase of our lives.
