I expected this book to contain healthy trail mix recipes. It does, but it is also full of many recipes that were quite a surprise. It has recipes for granola bars, salads, sandwiches and so much more. If your looking for healthy, on the go, snack recipes, then I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars.

Ann Reed has put together some tasty and clever ideas in her Kindle eBook, Healthy Ziploc Snacks, which has 40 recipes for one-the-go snacks. Like so many tasty treats, you may need to remember that these treats have heaps of calories so if you are watching your waistline (as I certainly should) I would be wary of indulging in these snacks too often. I know how easy it is to get carried away and finish off the lot! The big plus from Ann's book of recipes is that when you make her treats yourself, you will know for sure exactly what you are eating yourself or will be offering to your family... and how good it is. And then, if you need to tweak any of the recipes later, you can do that as well! Buy and enjoy this book, but do watch those calories a bit as well!

I've been making snacks in ziplocks for myself and my family for years and am glad to find a new collection of tasty treats. This cookbook goes way beyond the usual snacks that one would normally think of and includes some really creative recipes. I especially like the apple cinnamon popcorn. I am sure anyone will find several delicious ideas in this collection.

While the Healthy Ziplock Snacks cookbook contains many delicious sounding recipes, and there is a good selection ranging from typical snacks to sandwiches, the recipes lack a key piece of information: How to store your perishable snacks.

Here are several recipes, lacking needed storage information, that are most likely perishable:

Stuffed Mushrooms
Roasted Red Grapes with Honey and Thyme
Spinach and Strawberry Salad
Ham, Cream Cheese and Veggie Stacks

The stuffed mushrooms recipe contains, minced garlic, cream cheese and Parmesan cheese. This recipe should have directions on how to store them such as freezing and eating later or keeping the snack stored in ice packs. The ice pack method is the one I would choose as mushrooms tend to get mushy after being frozen and defrosted.

The roasted grapes recipe would probably best stored in a food storage bag between ice packs. Grapes are tossed with a seasoned honey mixture before being roasted.

The strawberry salad: You might be OK to store this at room temperature but the salad would taste better if kept cold. Once again there no storage directions given in therecip.

The Ham and Cream Cheese Veggie Snacks use a cream cheese and vegetable spread on Lavash crackers. This snack is stored in a food storage bag without any recommendations of keeping the snack cold.

Other recipes you find in this cookbook include:

Terrific Trail Mix
Tropical Trail Mix
Cinnamon Apple Popcorn

The directions are clearly written, and there is an active table of contents making navigation easy.

Recommend with caveats given.

'Healthy Ziploc Snacks: 40 Delicious "On the Go" Snack Recipes in a Ziploc Bag' by Ann Reed is a good
collection of relatively quick recipes for various snacks. Most of them are healthy, few - not so much.

Pros:

1. Recipes are given in logical, easy to understand manner.
2. Many recipes do not require any sort of cooking. You basically combine the ingredients together, toss them in
Ziploc and that's it. A plus for those of us who do not have time for cooking.
3. Large variety of dishes covered: Trail mixes, salads, sandwiches, cookies, rolls, toasts, wafers, muffins, etc.
4. Book is well formatted for Kindle and includes a clickable table of contents, that makes it easy to navigate.

Cons:

1. Not all recipes are healthy though I am sure all of them are delicious.
2. A bit more direction for storing the food, after it's been prepared, would be appreciated by those of us who are
relative newbies when it comes to cooking.

Recommended.

This is a book of recipes that do have easy convenient snacks but many of the ingredients are not what I consider all that healthy. eg: white bread, ham etc... otherwise with a few replacements it is possible to change them to be healthy.

Many very interesting, simple-to-prepare combinations of portable "real" foods - perfect for our busy lifestyles when we want to eat well, yet won't be home for meals. With just a little pre-planning, we can take our food with us and avoid the fast food habit. Some recipes would be perfect to include in school lunches and can easily be prepared ahead of time. Other recipes are more appropriate for adult tastes. I think there are recipes for everyone. Thanks for the good book!
