Largely forgotten today, De Vries was a humorist supreme of Midwestern values. I HEAR AMERICA SWINGING is a clever look at how out of place Midwesterners can be in their attempt to be contemporary.Particularly hilarious is his tweaking of his Dutch Christian Reformed heritage with one scandel being a non literal uniform reading of the Bible. Admittedly very dated at points, De Vries still raises a belly laugh now and then.
