5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story
I had to read this book in high school, and I just remembered it when recommending books for my grandmother to read. It is an amazing autobiography. It is chilling, sad, and amazing. Definitely worth the read.

3.0 out of 5 stars a great companion for Holocaust literature
Hear Me Now is a harrowing account of a young girl's experience in Cambodia during the takeover by the Khmer Rouge. Hear Me Now is a harrowing account of a young girl's experience in Cambodia during the takeover by the Khmer Rouge. The first-person account describes the author's experiences as well as the experiences of her family members. Although the book is graphic, it would not be unsuitable for middle schoolers. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to include companion literature while teaching Holocaust literature and the issues related to genocide.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, December 31, 2000

This review is from: Hear Me Now: Tragedy in Cambodia (Paperback)
After reading this book, I see things in a whole new light. This is an account of a young girl, who was invaded in Cambodia, and it really depicts and shows just what it was all about. It was deeply saddening to hear what this womam went through, and I feel that this is the Anne Frank of this era.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hear me yesterday, April 10, 2008
This review is from: Hear Me Now: Tragedy in Cambodia (Paperback)
This is a great booklet relating personal experiences through the eyes of an adolescent girl whose family was subjected to the brutality of the Khmer Rouge. The book was written roughly 20 years after the fact and doesn't include many statistics or precise dates. What the book is good for is getting a very general feel for how Angka (Khmer Rouge) broke up families, forced Cambodians to labor in "killing fields", starved them, and other harsh treatments. The Khmer Rouge's way of punishing those who did not obey is also generally relayed in the book. Again, it is through the eyes of a small child 9-11 or so years old and is written many years after the fact. The way that it is written also has a lot to be desired because of the constant use of cliche. The cliches don't stop. They are endless and are a distraction/annoyance. There also is a definite repetition to the book... I went here where I worked, starved, and watched many people die... yeah, that happens like 102812 times in the book as Sophal gets moved to various killing fields. Other than that, it's a good first person primer.
