5.0 out of 5 stars all right by me !!!
Hear It Now! The Sound of the '60s is a budget priced CD that gives us some really great tunes from the 1960s. Sure, it would have worked better with more songs; but for the current price that you pay this really isn't all that bad.

The album starts strong with The Byrds doing their huge hit "Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)." They...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not A Bad Collection - But There Are Better Ones!
This fourteen track 60's collection is good but could have been better had it been a 2-cd set. There are some serious deletions here such as The Mamas & Papas (Monday Monday or California Dreaming) , Lovin' Spoonful (Do You Believe In Magic or You Didn't Have To Be So Nice), Creedence Clearwater (Proud Mary or Bad Moon Rising) to name just a few. You do, however, have...

Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)." They harmonize so sweetly and they perform this song with all their heart and soul. I really like the musical arrangement with those electric guitars, too. Listen also for Simon & Garfunkel's classic ballad "The Sound Of Silence." Paul Simon especially never sounded better and Art Garfunkel's performance is equally strong. The guitars work well and the key changes make this number a very solid one.

Donovan weighs in with "Sunshine Superman;" this classic `60s hit always sounds great and I am fascinated by the arrangement. Donovan performs this number with a lot of style and this impresses me very much. There's also Blood Sweat & Tears and their smash hit "Spinning Wheel." "Spinning Wheel" is an indispensable number for anyone wanting a great collection of songs from the `60s.

"San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair)" by Scott McKenzie has a beautiful sound to it made even better by the percussion and guitars; and Scott sings this without a superfluous note. Listen for Roy Orbison doing his "Pretty Woman," too. Roy really sang well.

Van Morrison does their number called "Brown Eyed Girl" that truly exudes sensuality with a great `60s rockin' beat to it. The CD ends with Big Brother And The Holding Company's "Down On Me." I wasn't familiar with this number before I heard it on this CD but it is a rather good number I won't forget anytime soon!

Overall, as lower priced single CDs go, this one gives you just about the same type of compilation as any other good single album can. I disagree with other reviewers who write that this is essentially a poor selection of songs or that this CD is boring. Indeed, I recommend this single CD retrospective for casual fans just getting to know this genre of music; and people on a budget who want to remember great tunes that they first heard on the radio will do well to choose this album.

You do, however, have some great songs here such as "Turn, Turn, Turn" by The Byrds, "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison, "Kicks" by Paul Revere & The Raiders, "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan, and "Down On Me" by Big Brother & The Holding Company, etc. For an even better collection I would suggest the 2-cd set entitled "Positively 60's".

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Deal, August 6, 2009
I bought this cd in 2005 for a lot more than Amazon is asking and even then it was worth more than I paid for it! To give this cd a bad review is showing that you are too young to relate, buy it,you will love it.

"A Music Fan" says he only knew one of these songs?!! What cave has he been living in?? His gross lack of music knowlege is scary! You can do better than this compilation - Too few songs and chosen rather arbitrarily. The songs are classics though. Still can't believe previous reviewer didn't know "Sounds of Silence", "Pretty Woman", etc. --- How sad!

This is definately not the 60's compilation CD to get. Who was in charge of choosing the songs on this boring album anyway? I bought it for Van Morrisson, and was not familiar with any of the other songs but one. They weren't good.
