Book Description

From the moment girl-next-door Haley McAdams met America's Favorite News Reporter Camden Morrison, her life hasn't been the same. Suddenly she has everything she ever wanted- love, money, and career success. But can she handle the pressures that come with it?

One day she's a financial blogger, the next, a TV expert on a political scandal. Her on-air epiphanies, and liberated writing style have landed some powerful men in hot water, and there are consequences to pay.

Just as her career takes off, so does her love life. But the memories of her past make it hard to accept the good things around her. Is her rich and famous boyfriend the real reason for her new success? Does he really love her? Or does he have an ulterior motive too?

Haley is a good girl from a loving family and traditional values, but she knows her way around the world of finance and politics. She may be virtuous, but she is not naïve. And if there is one thing she has learned, it is that money is the root of all evil.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new favorite author! March 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had read articles by this author for Meridian Magazine and always enjoyed her sense of humor and down to earth take on modern life, so I jumped at the chance to read her book. It was fun and fast from start to finish and left me wanting more. It is rare to find a "clean" love story that isn't preachy in any way. Who says being moral and honest has to be boring? Not Erin Ann McBride! I have already purchased the next Haley and Cam book and hope there will be many more in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Finished, but wanting more! October 25, 2012
Format:Paperback
Just finished reading You Heard It Here First by Erin McBride. I have spent the last week curled up with my ipad reading and I enjoyed every minute of it. The main character, Haley was so easy to relate to. I loved how she moved from secure in her skin to the typical woman questioning everything and everyone around her, sometimes on the turn of a dime. Something that all of us can relate to. I loved her personality, her desires, her quirks and her personality. Ms. McBride really brought her character to life. I love politics but have always been scared of the stock market. Ms. McBride made it seem fun and exciting. Perfect read during this political season. If you are looking for a fun, engaging read, pick this one up!

3.0 out of 5 stars Its ok May 26, 2013
Format:Paperback
I started this book a few months ago. I have not finished it because I am not finding it to be one of those books you "have to" finish. The story and writing are ok quality--not great, not bad. I just feel this book is a bit "blah." The story is interesting and its an easy read.

The main thing I don't like about it is that the main character, Haley, seems to be a fantasy version of the author herself, and it comes across as if the author is trying way too hard to make her readers "love" Haley. Ms. McBride goes on and on about how amazing and special both Haley and Cam are, and it starts to feel very forced. As a reader, I quickly understood that Haley is special because she is an adult virgin, and seems like the "girl next door" with a sassy/smart personality, and that Cam is successful, famous, hot and a gentleman. But the author keeps mentioning these "amazing" qualities over and over, till you start to feel like the author herself is a little too in love with her own characters, and the fact that the characters reflect her own life. This made the book seem less real, and more fantasy to me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Confused April 15, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have bought all three episodes of the book on Kindle and I have just one question... Does McBride even READ what the puts out there? After the first episode, I was ready for more of Cam and Haley. The second one seemed a bit jumbled, but I got through it and enjoyed it. Part three (which I am currently reading) doesn't pick up at the end of two as expected, but goes back and re-writes almost the entire second part. I will finish the book, because I like the characters and the values they promote, but I hope there is a conclusion and not another cliff-hanger with no resolution. I don't mind reading serialized stories, but come on Erin... Tell the whole story one way or another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! November 5, 2012
Format:Paperback
This book was such a surprise for me! I had the opportunity to review it and so I took it, but because it was a political fiction - I didn't expect to love it as much as I truly did! Personally, politics have never been my thing - I leave that for my husband. But this book drew me in with its characters, plot, and moral values. I loved the strong, modern woman that Haley is and enjoyed the special looks into her character, her personality and into her thoughts. She just felt like a "real" woman - one that everyone can relate with. I loved the very likeable male character and their love story. I enjoyed the conversations, the adventures, the mysteries, and even the political situations in this story. Even in the midst of moving, I couldn't wait to pick it up at the end of the day to read. It was the perfect book full of romance, family values, independence, and living your dream.

You Heard it Here First is a well-written, engaging novel that left me wanting more and I can't wait to get my hands on more Haley Jo books! I sure hope another one comes soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Swept me off my feet! October 4, 2012
By KP
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the characters, the plot, and the language of this book. Haley seemed to possess every insecurity, doubt, and uncertainty- while also being brilliant, charming, and well-rounded- basically a normal modern day woman! I appreciated her logic and faith in standing by her values. I appreciated even more her humanity in following through with the best laid out plans. She acknowledges her vulnerabilities and that makes her endearing and complicated.
A must-read if you enjoy reading the intricacies falling in love (there is a very likeable male character) and keeping up with reality and chasing your dreams at the same time.
