It is truly junk.

The sound can be turned all the way down but because it's going straight into his hearing aides he can hear it perfectly.

Outdoors in the summer it will not last long.

This is an OK device if you are inside an office all day. But for a working man it has two severe drawbacks. Number one, it is extremely sensitive to moisture. If you start to sweat, the sweat runs right down the neck loop, into the device and it dies. If you go outside on a very humid day, it dies. Why can't it be made moisture resistant like my Phonak hearing aids? Number two, it does not work well in a noisy environment. If you are streaming audio, it turns up the sensitivity of the hearing aids so if you are riding in a truck or in a machine shop, the environmental noise drowns out the streaming. This is the exact opposite of how it should be. If you are getting a phone call or using it to listen to music, it should turn down the sensitivity of the hearing aids so that you can hear what you are streaming. For a guy like me that drives a truck and works hard outside it is just not worth the price or the hassle. I have had to return mine for repair 3 times in the year that I have had it due to moisture.

I've used Phonak technology for about 8 years now. The previous iCom model I've had for about 3 years and was good. I became very dependent on it. I use the phone for my line of work extensively, so having the sound go straight to my hearing aids is crucial.

With this version, the ComPilot, I really like the fact that I can stream music from my iPhone, MacBook Pro, use Skype all directly into my hearing aids from the device. It's also way-cool that it voice-activates who is calling you when they call, as long as the person is in your contact list (on your smartphone).

I use two phone systems and both paired effortlessly.

Last pro: sound quality is great. Others that I call say they hear me great, as I do them.

Only con: neckloop itself is very flimsy. When your neck (or body) perspires, it can deteriorate the cable over time. This has happened to me three times and is the biggest issue they have, in my opinion.

Otherwise Two thumbs up!

This is my 2nd generation "ICom" from Phonak. It has great sound (for me as well as the caller on my phone.) I love that it will announce the caller's name if programmed into my phone. Pairing with TVLink is easy also.
Pairing with smartphone is extremely easy. With TVLink I can adjust volume to my needs without an effect on non-hearing impaired.
It also works well with my FM system; though I have not tried it yet with other FM systems.
The only drawback to "Bluetooth" devices is that they ALL create a huge drain on battery life (both phone and for my Hearing Aids.) Still, I believe it's well worth the expense to be completely hands free for phone/driving. I noticed that I can stream music while driving but it's block out all noise so I can hear car horns/emergency vehicles. That isn't the case when using a regular pair of ear buds with phone and is dangerous.

Had this for a few months and it was great to be able to stream music while I worked out. Trouble is it has no ability to withstand any water or perspiration. ZERO. I noticed it had gotten some sweat on it so I wiped it off. Plugged it in for a recharge and it would no longer stream Bluetooth or with a headphone cord. I am buying another one and this time I am going to wrap it in saran wrap or something.

I will never buy another set of Phonak hearing aids again. The Compilot is the least reliable accessory I have ever come across. It is truly junk. The first one I purchased got a small amount of moisture and it was done. I bought another one. The second one was grabbed by my toddler. I had to get it from her. A toddlers grip was able to somehow damage this in a manner that it will no longer work. I took it apart and for a brief moment in moving the strap connector ever so slightly I saw the proper light come on with that familiar steady blink. Without soldering it there is no way this connector will maintain its connectivity. I do still have the hearing aids so I have begrudgingly purchased two more of these turds. I will be ordering another I am certain so I will keep a back up on hand.

Phonak - Are listening (pun intended) I already bought these hearing aids so I am stuck for now but when the time comes (every two years or so) Phonak is off the table!

I fear your products now. If you have so little concern for the manufacture of a truly life altering accessory then I believe you have the same level of concern for your Hearing aids. I will never buy another Phonak product again - unless I get a letter from your CEO apologizing and explaining in detail the steps you have taken to address your quality control issues.

This device is easy to use and it sounds good too. The problem is just what another reviewer wrote about it being extremely sensitive to moisture. Outdoors in the summer it will not last long. I've replaced mine after one year due to the moisture problem. Since then I've sealed the second one a bit better on the rear with silicon on the screw holes. But they could be manufactured better for the price. If it's used indoors most of the time I would recommend it. But beware.
