4.0 out of 5 stars A very practical guide to developing a strong prayer life.
Prayer may be the one area of faith that confuses the most people. Ask 100 people to define prayer and you'll get 100 different answers. Yet prayer remains a powerful symbol to most people. For some it is an acknowledgement that there is indeed a higher power upon whom we can call;for others it is indeed an intimate conversation with the God who is there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I'm surprised that others here rate this book so highly. It really is poorly written. The biggest failure is that Peter Lord does not define his terms. This is a glaring omission on a topic, "Hearing God", that is understood differently by various groups within Christendom. The way that the author writes would lead one naturally to understand him to be referring to an...

4.0 out of 5 stars A very practical guide to developing a strong prayer life., May 12, 1998
This review is from: Hearing God (Paperback)
Prayer may be the one area of faith that confuses the most people. Ask 100 people to define prayer and you'll get 100 different answers. Yet prayer remains a powerful symbol to most people. For some it is an acknowledgement that there is indeed a higher power upon whom we can call;for others it is indeed an intimate conversation with the God who is there.

Peter Lord brings the concept of prayer down to the level of everyday life and offers a practical guide to both understanding and practicing prayer. The book does not treat prayer as some mystical, inward-looking experience, but as a real conversation with a real God who listens and speaks to us.

Much of what Lord writes will have little meaning unless one believes in the God of the Holy Bible and accepts His son, Jesus Christ as Savior. Lord is undoubtedly focusing his ideas to those who want to strengthen their relationship with the God in whom they already believe.

For those who call themselves Christians and who want to enter into conversation with God, this book provides usuable and practical guidelines based on scriptural teaching. This reviewer's personal prayer life was greatly enriched by reading this book and applying Lord's teaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accessible, February 28, 2004
This review is from: Hearing God (Paperback)
There are loads of good books out now on Hearing God but this is the most accessible and concise I have ever read. Peter Lord accomplishes this spiritually, scripturally, experientially, logically, comprehensively and simply! That is quite an accomplishment and it is obvious the Holy Spirit helped him write it. Thank you, Peter Lord.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practicle Handbook for Christians who want to hear from God., March 4, 1998
This review is from: Hearing God (Paperback)
Back Cover: Does the Bible teach that we can and should hear God speak to us today? How can we hear God's voice? How can we know whether the thoughts are God's, or from the devil? How can we find God's will for most things of life unless he tells us? Peter Lord answers these questions as he underscores the necessity of learning how to listen for the voice of God. He believes that for many Christians prayer life is so difficult because it is basically a one-way conversation. This handbook is an easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide to two-way communication with God. Those who pursue such a relationship will be rewarded with a vigorous prayer life coupled with a dynamic and personal encounter with the God who reveals himself in his Word.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece!, November 17, 2003

This review is from: Hearing God (Paperback)
Take your time in reading this book. Relish it. It is deep, rich, and full of insight on hearing God. He reminds us of the statement made by Jesus, "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear." An analogy helps make his point on the importance of hearing God, that like skiing downhill blind, we cannot see even a portion of the future, but the Holy Spirit is our Guide.

Two way communication is vital to relationships. In our relationship to God, listening is necessary in prayer. The one who listens to God and responds positively will hear even more, Lord writes. In order to listen effectively, external distractions must be eliminated.

There are many practical tips on hearing God more effectively in this book. A review doesn't do justice to the richness of the content. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare To Have Life In Your Prayer Life!, December 18, 2003
This review is from: Hearing God (Paperback)
This is a brilliant presentation by a brilliant author. Like many others, I first heard of Peter Lord through James and Betty Robinson's Life Today program. I bought the book after hearing Brother Lord's testimony. Prayer will never be appreciated if it is beleived to be one way communication. This written work declares the truth regarding two way communication with God. Reading this book carefully and applying the principles presented will completely change your life. This is an excellent book for both the Bible scholar and the New Christian alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied, November 9, 2010
This review is from: Hearing God (Paperback)
When I first purchased this book, I was slightly skeptical (as I am with all Christian books) because it is very easy to attempt to box God in to a method. I tend to run far away from methods, especially step-by-step methods on communing with God.

However, I didn't find much methodology behind this book. It's full of very practical, everyday-life, examples on communing with God. When I think of "Hearing God" by Peter Lord, I don't think of a how-to book, or a step-by-step program. Instead, I think of a book that attempts to clear out ears in order to hear what God is already saying. Peter goes beyond the mystical, up in the clouds, approach to prayer and meditation...I think of a book that focuses on the hear and now. The little things in life, the little details and every day occurences, this is where we will be "Hearing God."

I would recommend this to any believer. That's saying something for me. I don't suggest books unless they are good, and I certainly don't write reviews on them!
