Product Description

Hear an illustrated audio lecture on how we hear, the parts of music, and how we express ourselves with music in the About Music section. Play games to link musical phrases; hear changes in pitch and rhythm; practice recognizing music notation in relation to what you hear; and find out how music changes when it is played faster, slower, backwards, or upside-down. The Note to Parents&Teachers section allows you to choose regular game mode or assessment mode. The regular mode responds with an encouragement such as "You did it!" or "Try again!" when an answer is given; assessment mode responds "Thank you" after each answer, showing the number of correct or incorrect answers at the end of each level. For record-keeping purposes, the assessment mode breaks down the results for each student wherever possible, to help you indentify when a child is having difficulty with a specific area of music (such as rhythm or scales). REQUIREMENTS: Windows 95/ 98/ ME/ 2000/ XP *OR* Mac O.S. 8 to X; 12 MB hard disk space; 8 MB RAM; external speakers or headphones (also sound card for Windows).

4.0 out of 5 stars More fun than piano lessons..., July 3, 2004
By
This review is from: Hearing Music-The Game that Teaches You how to Listen! (CD-ROM)
Want to teach your kids to enjoy listening to music, especially classical? Then try this program. Easy-to-use interface, wonderful tunes, great exposure to classical music in these sad rap-and-brittney times. Not for the faint of heart, however. Despite its simple interface, kids used to story lines and immersive environments will find this more like a standardized test than fun software, at least on first blush. However, if you are willing to sit down with them and help out, then the game becomes lots of fun. I liked the way it adjusts itself to the capabilities of the player. At the higher levels the game is quite challenging, even for adults. When my kids sit down to play, the music that comes forth is a great alternative to the mind-numbing drivel that normally accompanies video games. I actually enjoy listening to them play. If you have a decent set of speakers, then it sounds really nice. I wish I had this to play with when I was taking first grade piano lessons...

I teach piano lessons to a variety of ages. I use this game to supplement the instruction and all of my students love to play this game! (With the exception of one or two teenagers that think they are too cool.) It is entertaining for my younger students. The images and music hold their attention and they have grown in their ability to hear and reproduce music. Yet it is still challenging for my adult students. I even enjoy to sit down and play it for a while. Another benefit is that it allows me to track each student's progress individually by saving the games under each student's name.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hearing Music BOGUS CD, December 1, 2007
This review is from: Hearing Music-The Game that Teaches You how to Listen! (CD-ROM)
Hello,

This is the second of two music CD's we bought on line. They are DEFECTIVE! We tried playing them on more than 3 computers, belonging to as many people, and they will not correctly download or play correctly. DO NOT BUY THIS ON LINE. WE GOT RIPPED! I can not recommend this as a means of ordering this product. When I get a replacement, I will go thru a store, because I can not get my money back.
