PhD recommends The Heart of Adoption . . .,
This review is from: The Heart of Adoption (Paperback)
Armed with compassion, unconditional love and faith in our Lord, Vickie Bryan brings us the story of her life, the quest to become a mother and parent. This quest, surpassed years of barrenness and led her to a greater understanding of parenthood from a spiritual perspective. Each time one door was closed to her,she summoned her faith and opened another. With integrity, she discusses the pitfalls and disappointments frequent in the adoption process, and uses them to illustrate through faith, that God's love never fails. This book is for currently adoptive parents, but more importantly, it is for those who have become frustrated and are feeling hopeless in adopting a child. This book is an inspiration for all people who have it in their heart and spirituality to love achild who is alone and in desperate need to belong. don't read this book,
This review is from: The Heart of Adoption (Paperback)
I was appalled to read this book, which claims to be about the "heart" of adoption and yet the author, after just one month, rejects a 13 year-old child she committed to adopt. The author shows more compassion towards a hurt kitten than she does towards this child. She understands that a wounded animal may bite but cannot show unconditional love towards four sibling foster children, calling them "feral" children. I am reminded of the orphan trains of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The plan was to send orphaned or needy children out west with the hope of kindly families taking them in, and yet many orphans found themselves looked upon and treated as livestock at a county fair. This is not a book about the heart of adoption; it is a demonstration of what happens when a woman will go to any lengths to fill her "barren womb" at the expense of the very children she claims to yearn to love.

"The Heart of Adopton" is a must-read for all that are going through the longing to have and nurture a child.A well-written book that takes you through the process of adoption, a book you can't put down, the author makes the reader "feel" each disappointment, heartbreak, hope, faith and triumph she and her husband James experienced on their long journey to become parents. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny and witty, Vickie Patterson Bryan's story is written with heartfelt love, patience, perseverance and faith in her Lord, which only a barren woman can convey. "The Heart of Adoption" renews our faith in God that He, above all, is in charge.
