I have three little boys and I was concerned about some of their behaviors. Fighting, yelling, getting really mad at each other. This book answered so many questions for me it was great. He backs up everything he says with Bible verse and there are examples to help also. A lot of books hint at what could be the root of the problem but this guy lays it out in a way that is easy to understand and I have seen great improvement in my boys just in the first few days. It isn't just a book for children it is for anyone that needs to deal with an anger problem. I have felt a lot better after reading it. It heled me to see what actions I was taking that were upsetting the kids and giving them a bad example. It isn't a book that makes you feel you are a bad person. It just points out things that everybody does to some degree and just taking time to notice which things apply to you is a great help. I think everybody should get at least two of this book because it is the kind of book you want to give to a friend. If everybody read this book the world would be a better place to live in.

I received the book from a good Christian mentor. I have a child with ADD and another with LD. Both are adopted. The book advises reading it once for yourself if you are dealing with anger and a second reading as you work with your children. Good advice! The child-centered anology explains the state of the nation. The book has given us a template to deal with seemingly overwhelming situations at home. The format is simple and straightforward. The scriptures and application techniques are awesome. The process is being adapted now with good result. I am buying more copies for my friends and patients.

The subtitle says "Practical" and the advice really is! Not pie-in-the sky psychobabble, but direct, concrete, specific steps toward figuring out what lies behind the anger and knowing how to address it. I especially appreciate how the book doesn't waste time trying to place blame or point fingers. It just helps the parent get to work addressing the attitudes and behaviors that need correction.

I really enjoyed and learned alot from this book. I don't think there are many if any other books out there that deal with the subject of a child's heart and provoking a child to anger the Biblical way this one does. A great compliment to Tedd Tripp's Shephearding a Child's Heart. If you loved that one, you'll love this one, too!

This is the second book I have read by Lou Priolo (the first was "The Complete Husband"), and I was not disappointed by the wealth of insights that he provides to approach parenting in a purposeful, Bible-based way. Keep in mind that this book was written by a Christian, for Christians who are committed to following Christ themselves and teaching their children to do the same. If you are not a believer, if you do not have the power of the Holy Spirit living in you, you will find many of the principles in this book very difficult, if not impossible, to put into practice.

Priolo's approach to dealing with angry children, and with parenting in general, is first to focus on the parents themselves. Parents need to identify whether they show the "symptoms" of a child-centered home as opposed to a God-centered home. Next, parents are exhorted to consider twenty-five key ways they most commonly provoke their children. Once the reader is able to assess his or her own situation, Priolo touches on many key problems of parenting and provides scripturally sound advice to solve them. Issues like anger, obedience, respect, and servanthood are all explored as the author teaches us to look past a child's outward behavior to identify and deal with the issues of the heart. "Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." The tools provided in this book will equip the godly parent to bring up their progeny without provoking them to wrath.

My only criticism is that the author seems to have a somewhat idealistic, or at least overly optimistic, view of what the average parent is able to implement in today's hurried culture. He offers suggestions like repetitious journaling and roleplaying, or use of the "Think Room" (where children are given the opportunity to study biblical principles about their behavior), to train kids in the right way to act and respond to their parents. As I read these sections, along with some of the illustrative dialogues, I thought to myself, "Yeah, right. Who has time for that? And who in the world talks to their kids like that?" (The sample dialogues were decidedly Leave-It-To-Beaver-ish). That's not to say these suggestions are useless, but for most of us they'll have to be "stripped down" to a more manageable form if they're going to be truly practical.

Overall, I took away some great insights which I plan to work into my own parenting plan. While the author acknowledges this is hard work, he reminds us that by God's grace we can handle it, and the reward will make it all worthwhile.

I really found this book to be a great biblically based approach to dealing with strong willed/ hot tempered children - *AND* a fair treatment of a parents responsibility to not provoke a child to anger. It wasn't filled with modern psychology (aka humanism) - this is a good thing. If you trust the Word of God in the Bible, you will find this a helpful guide.

Another excellent book for parenting. Some children by personality have what can only be called an "angry heart". One of my children was this way. I wish I had this book for ideas back then! I cannot recommend it enough!

This is an exceptional book. Biblical, practical, lots of examples and useful tools. This book is excellent, not only for raising children who have anger problems, but great for raising any child.

This book was a blessing to our entire family. It speaks to the parents of how to nuture the heart of children with anger issues and how to prevent anger from growing in hearts of children who don't exhibit blatant issues. The book's practical application of Biblical truth should admonish any and every reader to take a deeper look at himself/heself and challenge a better relationship with others; thus, it brings the reader closer to Godly living himself. This is a valuable resource that most of my extended family has read and that I have recommended and heard praised by several friends and associates. Don't miss out on the blessings in this book! It is NOT just for parents of angry children!
