A compelling anthology of true life stories,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Heart Behind the Hero (Hardcover)
The Heart Behind The Hero is a compelling anthology of true life stories, essays and poems contributed by firefighters and paramedics across the country. Touching, inspiring, heartwarming, dramatic, superbly written and presented, The Heart Behind The Hero reveals the emotions, feelings, and spirit of today's American firefighters and rescue workers in their own words. The humor, pathos, heartbreak, and hard work is clearly evident as the contributors pay tribute to their colleagues and comrades who sacrificed their lives doing a job they loved in service to the communities in which they lived. Here is a fascinating "window" into the lifestyles and thoughts of brave men and women whose heroism is routine and whose sacrifices are the stuff of which legends are made.

Incredible Inside Perspective,
By
This review is from: The Heart Behind the Hero (Hardcover)
Curt and Karen Yoder have hit the mark with this incredible inside perspective of firefighters and there daily challenges. This book makes it very clear that there is more to firefighting than a job, it takes "Heart" as well to venture into the unknown on a daily basis. The different stories within the story show that this is the case across the country no matter the scenario. As a professional firefighter for over 15 years, I'm proud to be a part of this brotherhood and its nice to see a book written from this perspective.

The Amazing True Stories of Fire Fighters,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Heart Behind the Hero (Hardcover)
Janet, ConnecticutThe Heart Behind The Hero is a real eye opener. I found it difficult to put the book down. The reader can both feel and picture the experiences of those who told their story. These people really are heros. I thank Karen and Curt Yoder for putting together this great book. Thank you to all of those who risk their own lives to save others,

Heartwarming, Emotive, Repetitive,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Heart Behind the Hero (Hardcover)
Positive stories from the field that transformed the lives of fire and rescue personnel. Provides insight into the role of the career and volunteer fire and rescue person. Somewhat repetitive in its themes and persons interviewed. Easy read that can be finished in a couple of days.

A True Firefighter's--Medic Book!,
By Matt (Kodiak, Alaska United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Heart Behind the Hero (Hardcover)
I am a Firefighter/EMT from Kodiak, Alaska. This book reminds me of so many calls i've gone on. It describes how the job doesn't have all good outcomes, but when there are good outcomes it makes the job that much better. This book is a true representation of a firefighter and a Medics job. It only took a week to read since I was glued to it with interest.

Stories to Tug at Your Heart,
This review is from: The Heart Behind the Hero (Hardcover)
I know Karen Yoder. She comes from a firefighter family and this exceptional little book is written from knowing about what firefighters face every day and right from her heart. In addition, Karen and her husband visit schools, bringing the message of firefighting and letting young people know that being a firefighter is a most special and noble profession. This book says it all and its a fitting and very touching tribute to the sacrifices of firefighters everywhere.

I purchased a copy as a christmas gift for my grandson.
He is a volunteer fire chief and his father's name is in the roster. The book had been signed by the author to "Dan". His name is Jason. It was nice to have it signed but not to the wrong person. I did not give the name so it had to be signed for someone else.

I purchased this book in March. I LOVED it. As a firefighter the stories definitely hit home. The stories ranged from heartwarming to downright funny. This book contained something for all emergency service workers.
