This is truely a great collection of the best verses of the Bible. Pastor John carefully interprets and explains the verses as if you are sitting in a personal study session with him and offers sound teaching and proper exegesis. You will find yourself wanting to read this again when you are done. It is great for morning/evening devotion either with your family or for yourself. Crystal clear teaching and a book you'll want to read again and again. A must read for any serious Protestant believer.

This book is a mix of devotional and instructional read that attempt to summarize the strongest and most essential bible messages in 52 verses. Dr. John Macarthur, a renowned pastor and teacher, did an excellent job selecting verses which are indeed powerful and both soul and mind stirring. Although meant to be an all year around read (1 verse per week to meditate and reflect upon), you will find yourself carrying on reading through the verses along with John's commentary and finishing the book way earlier than anticipated. I have learned a lot from this small and light book, especially on the matter of God's character and reign, about the redemption at the cross and its implication for us and how should real Christians not only accept Christ's sacrifice but live worthy of Christ's calling.

John's style is bold, straight to the point and without compromise. The 52 verses dealt with in this book are, on their own, powerful enough to make you reconsider a lot about your life, and John adds his touch to make things clear as crystal. The only downside of this book is that it is too short for such powerful verses. John could have went a lot deeper with each passage as there are a lot more to be said. But then again, this book wasn't meant to be a theological reference but a light devotional outline to the Christian faith.

This is probably the best summary (quick) understanding of the important scripture references every Christian should know.

MacArthur gives 52 key verses and a brief explanation of each. The idea of the book is for the reader to read, understand, and think about one piece of scripture a week for the entire year.

The passages are grouped together in chapters to help the reader focus on one aspect of Christianity for several weeks before moving on to the next topic.

I would strongly recommend this book to a new or growing Christian. This would also be a good book for a more mature Christian looking to deepen or strengthen their faith as well.
