2.0 out of 5 stars Double-plus ungood
I really wanted to like this book, but in the end it was nearly everything I hate about romance novels. The widowed hero was a total jerk to the heroine for 90% of the book. Yes, I get it, he was broken up about his first wife's brutal murder. Be that as it may, he proposed to the heroine of his own free will. Treating her cruelly and rudely because he didn't want to love...

Sloan McCord was reall possessed with his dead wife. But his wife who was a Cheyenne Indian left him to raise a little girl. Sloan needed a mother for his daughter and a wife. He really didn't want to love her, but have her for looks and for to raise his young daughter. What he got was not what he figured.

He meets Heather Ashford a once well to do young woman with schooling and social skills. Heather now in debt from her father's careless gambling receives a letter from a dear friend that seems to have a solution to her problem. She accepts the offer from Sloan to become his wife and in return he pays her debts.

The electricity between these two are so awesome. Sloan denies she effects him in any way. Heather falls hopelessly in love with Sloan.

Sloan really made me angry with the way he was treating Heather. I found myself talking to the book. He was ridiculous with his comparisons of her and his dead wife.

My first Nicole Jordan novel was The Seduction. After reading it, I decided to find all of her books. She is a wonderful writer that seems to bring her characters to life.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a word.....AWESOME!!!, March 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Heart Breaker (Mass Market Paperback)
I am not a huge fan of Western historicals, I usually read Medievel, but I was so swept up in this book that I want to read all of Ms. Jordans other books. This book was awesome! Not very many books make my heart physically ache but this one did. I felt so bad for Heather. How could she not love the hell out of Sloan. What a man. I did think that he was a huge jerk to her throughout the entire book and I think she should have let him sweat a little more before she went back to him but I understand why she had a hard time resisting him. I am very impressed with Nicole's writing. It is fast paced and she draws you in to a hot (and I mean hot!) luscious story. I can't wait to read the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made me want to run out and buy all her past books!, March 19, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heart Breaker (Mass Market Paperback)
Sloan McCord needed a mother for his half Indian daughter. Unable to defile the memory of his deceased wife, Doe, he arranges a marriage to Heather Ashford.

Heather's family debts made her close the doors to her school. Even though she had never met him, she agreed to Sloan's proposal of marriage by letter.

Work on the ranch was hard, but Heather came to love it. Janna was like her own daughter and times with Sloan were hot. As Heather grew to love all of it, she ached for the love Sloan could not give her in return.

With her help, Sloan won the election for Senate. Now he was losing Heather all by himself.

***One of the best historical romances I've read. I have hope that other characters I am fond of will have their own story. Nicole can make some powerful men in her stories!***

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful story, June 17, 1999
By
This review is from: Heart Breaker (Mass Market Paperback)
Being a long time fan of Ms. Jordan's work, I wasn't surprised that this story was yet another hit in a long line of classics. There were minor parts or places that I missed the romance of it all. I definitely understood they lusted after each other--but hey good lust is hard to find as well. Keep up the Good work, Ms. Jordan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic and real, August 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heart Breaker (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first time I have read for Nicole Jordan, and I found her book to be very real and close to the heart. The characters where believable and the feelings understandable. The language is easy and enjoyable. I loved it. Romance at its best. Those who usually mock romance readers as flightly emotional people have not read Nicole Jordan's The Heartbreaker.
