5.0 out of 5 stars A really good time
I had so much fun reading this book. I read the first book by Ms. Cash and couldn't wait for this one, it was no disappointment. I hope more books are in the offering for this writer and I hope she keeps Edwina, Debbie Sue and all the other great characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
The best thing about this book is its wonderful title (which I couldn't resist). Having lived in Texas for several decades, I found that the description a small Texas town rings true.

However, there simply wasn't as much substance to this book as there should have been. The book reads as an outline that needs to be fleshed out with a lot more depth and...

4.0 out of 5 stars fun old fashion romance, October 25, 2005
Her loving wealthy dad Buck McBride is upset with Paige for wasting money. He tells her to get a job as he will provide no more money to her except $2000 in her checking to cover rent for three months.

At the bank, Paige backs into Spur Atwater's old truck. He is at the bank seeking a loan to buy out a veterinary practice in Salt Lick, Texas. Paige thinks he is a nasty laborer while he believes she is daddy's spoiled rich girl. Only McDonald's hires Paige, but they quickly fire her.

Daddy gets Paige a job at Harley Carruthers' ranch in Salt Lick as assistant to his trainer Lester Clinton, who leers at her and uses sexist comments. Later Paige visits Stylist Station, Domestic Equalizers to rent a place from one of the owners Debbie Sue Overstreet. She and her partner Edwina Perkins welcome Paige to town. Debbie Sue invites Paige to dinner not telling her that Spur is coming too. At dinner they have a good time as he is friendly and she is earthy. Paige and Spur begin seeing each other. As they fall in love, someone is stealing horses; the three women vow to save Debbie Sue's steed if the horse is abducted.

This old fashion romance is fun to follow as their first three encounters are conflicts, but evolves into love. The return of the zany support cast from the first Salt Lick novel (SINCE YOU'RE LEAVING ANYWAY, TAKE OUT THE TRASH) adds humor, friendship, and some late suspense. Though the suspense seems anticlimactic in spite of references alluding to stolen horses throughout the plot, fans will appreciate this fine contemporary tale.

These books are lots of fun. They make me laugh out loud! Listening to them on audio is even more fun as the reader has the Texas accent down perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure fun, February 3, 2011
After reading the first book, it was such fun to get to the next. Laugh out loud funny at the end. Love Debbie Sue and Edwina. They are like every west Texas woman I've ever met.

If a person is looking for a fun, light read.. these are your authors.

I'm only about a 1/3rd of the way through, but I am totally hooked. Can't wait to get back to it every day. It's been a long time since I've looked forward to diving into a book.Light, breezy, funny, real, & totally engrossing. As long as the ending doesn't disappoint, they definitely have a new fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly entertaining, October 23, 2010
By
I bought this book on clearance and was immediately attracted by the title which promised a light, fun, hilarious read. That's exactly what I got. It wasn't too deep and I laughed a lot (the cooler incident brought me to tears because I laughed so hard). There were a couple of areas that I found iffy but it didn't matter. All in all, I got my money's worth. In fact, I liked it so much I might even read the prequel.

I'd definitely read Dixie Cash again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughed till I cried, February 4, 2009

Finding this series was a strike of luck. The characters are fun, the dialogue is quick and the mysteries are interesting.

I have definitely laughed out loud at some of the antics and, especially, the dialogue. There is a scene with Edwina and a horse at the end of the book that had me wiping my eyes.

If Dixie Cash is the author, it is hilarious! I've read most of her books and enjoyed every one of them! Her descriptions are the best!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, December 31, 2005
The best thing about this book is its wonderful title (which I couldn't resist). Having lived in Texas for several decades, I found that the description a small Texas town rings true.

However, there simply wasn't as much substance to this book as there should have been. The book reads as an outline that needs to be fleshed out with a lot more depth and detail. The bones for an entertaining read are there, but everything happens way too fast and without enough foundation. When you get to the villain of the piece, you're likely to say, "Who?"

All in all, not a bad effort, but next time, add about 100 more pages and some believable character development, because it generally takes more than a couple of weeks and lots of trial and error for someone to turn her life around.
