About the Author

Layne Redmond is a lifelong student of yoga who has researched and practiced powerful meditations focused on the chakras over the course of her 35-year practice. She is an acclaimed drummer, composer, mythologist, and the author of When the Drummers Were Women (Three Rivers Press, 1997)—an exploration of the lost history of a time when priestesses were drummers and leaders of ritual. Redmond has taught and lectured at the National Association of Music Therapy, Berklee College of Music, California Institute of the Arts, and Esalen Institute.

Some wonderful and profound material here. I found the breathing instructions useful, particularly the unusual "humming bee breath." The "first sound" sections of the two discs are fascinating. Listening to the steady pumping of blood (as we must have heard it in the womb) is an interesting alternative to other rebirthing techniques.

Downside: Redmond talks a bit too much. It is difficult to slip into a meditative state when she continually throws words into the mix and draws us back into our heads. Obviously she needs to provide instruction, but I wish she had chosen the "less is more" approach.

I have found this cd to have good basic meditation breathing instruction with the profound focus on the heart beat.The Bee Bhramari Breathing Technique is beautiful and restful. I can see where it would be very healing. The guided meditation is very relaxing and deeply significant. The 2nd CD has beautiful music and pulse to practice to.

A 2-CD set of meditative exercises compiled with chants, visualizations, and breathing practices to open and balance the heart. Many people are walking around broken hearted and it's a very good and healthy thing to heal it. Healing the heart is not the same as curing. Healing is integrating the emotional experience into your psyche as wisdom once the emotions are processed. In a harried world ... people are lead to believe that the head is supreme and the heart to be ignored. Not true. If you have had your heart broken you do yourself a huge service to heal it. Not just for health but for your own inner peace. We all deserve to be happy for the sake of being happy. If not, a broken heart will simply stay broken and will be vulnerable to more heartache. It's like the man who was hurt by the woman in his life who doesn't heal the pain...only to meet another great love a few years later... and lose her because the ghost of a lost lover pushes the new love away because she feels like a simple replacement, and the man re-experiences the trauma of loss once again. Layne Redmond's CD set is a good tool to have on the path to living and creating a life that makes the heart happy.
