Product Description

Amy Wilson struggles to make a home for herself and her small son in the Northern California town of Riverton. Widowed and alone, and saddled with debt from her husband’s failed business, she vows to pay off his creditors herself and remain independent from her overbearing in-laws.

Shay McHugh is dissatisfied with his life. At thirty-three, he has a home on the river which he has just remodeled, a white Porsche, a powerboat, and a position as manager of Riverton’s ValuKing Supermarket. But lately he finds life doesn’t offer the fulfillment he craves. Something is lacking. When he meets Amy, he has an overwhelming desire to protect her, which is exactly the thing Amy has been escaping. Can the two set aside their differences and make room for love?

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and Moving, October 9, 2011

Suzanne Barrett writes an unusual romantic story every time she picks up a pen (er, keyboard).
In this case, the story of a young mother struggling to establish a new life for herself and her son in a quaint small California town is one of her most moving and heartfelt works. Ms. Barrett has a true writer's gift for bringing people and places to life--I won't easily forget this short novella as it really plucks all my heartstrings and makes me think, as well: how many, many young women work to carry out their role as good parents and find personal fulfillment, too. Life isn't easy, and Ms. Barrett doesn't shy away from making it understandable and realistic and wonderfully uplifting, as well. Bravo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick read that draws you in immediately, November 14, 2011
This review is from: Gift of the Heart (A Christmas Romance Novella) (Kindle Edition)

This was a Christmas romance novella and drew you in immediately. It was a quick read - too quick like most novellas - and the ending left a lot of storyline potential. It would have been nice if the story could have continued for a few more chapters. It was a rags to riches type story with lots of struggles in between but some laughter and tears too. You had no choice but to root for Amy and her son Josh to succeed in their new life after having to run away from their old one. I had thoroughly enjoyed Late Harvest by the same author, the first book I read of hers, and look forward to reading others in the future.

More About the Author

I've been writing more than twenty years. In 1999 I sold my first book, followed by two more and a novella.

Since 2010 I've been with Turquoise Morning Press and have three books and two anthology stories published. In October a novella, Gift of the Heart, comes out, followed by an historical, Sierra Bride. An Irish Rogue will be a November release with four more books scheduled for 2012.

Taming Rowan, my May release is set in the north of England and involves a feisty structural engineer and the sexy Brit project officer who wants no females on site. Sparks are bound to fly when these two get together, and it's only a matter of time before readers decide who is taming who.

In Love and War came out in January and is the book of my heart. I spent part of a winter in Ireland researching this story of a wounded war correspondent and the Irish dairy farmer who captures his heart. This book was twice a RWA Golden Heart finalist.

Late Harvest, a California wine-country story and another RWA Golden Heart Finalist, came out last November. The heroine, Glenna is a winemaker with a dark secret. Returning to the winery where she grew up is the hardest thing she's had to do, and working for German vintner Kurt von Daniken may prove even more difficult, especially when she's never stopped loving him.

In addition to writing, I create designer jewelry (www.bellerustique.com). I'm also a water fitness instructor. Recreational hobbies include gardening and gourmet cookery. Additionally, I'm on Facebook and I have a blog (http://bellerustique/blogspot.com)and finally, for articles and information on Ireland, visit my travel website Ireland for Visitors.
