I recently bought this DVD to replace my old VHS copy, and I hadn't watched it in quite a few years. It was an absolute joy to see it again, and finally in a quality that approaches the real experience (in the theater)... you know what I mean if the only way you've viewed a movie you like has been on VHS in 4:3 - the sound and picture suffer greatly so seeing it on DVD is like watching it for the first time again... you see and hear things that just aren't there on VHS.

Anyway, it's also interesting to re-watch something you liked in your youth, and see how different it looks in your middle age. Well, in some ways it did because Heart Condition is full of 80s touches, so that had a more distinctly nostaligic look to watch now. But the story and the acting held up well anyway, if anything I appreciated the movie more. The style of the clothing, the crazy apartment that Denzel's character lives in, the neat Malibu beach house of the pimp bad guy... I even like the soundtrack.

I don't want to tell you the plot again but suffice to say it is hilarious to watch Bob Hoskins transform from a gruff, smoking and drinking, cheeseburger gorging, bitter old cop - there's a shopping and grooming montage that reminds me of a combination of the clothing trip in Twins and the haircutting trip in Hardbodies. And the variations in the acting were very interesting too - you get loud moments of extreme confrontation, you get quiet moments of sad realizations that there's a better way to live if you change your attitude, not merely about being racist (that's almost the least of Bob Hoskins' character's problems) but about how you relate to everyone in general. I still thought amid all that, there were plenty of hilarious gags too.

Jack Moony, a white cop, has it in for a black lawyer to the drug crowd, Napoleon Stone. That Stone is now dating his ex-girlfriend doesn't help matters at all. Stone is shot after Moony suffers a heart attack and wakes to find that he not only has a new heart, but that it is Stone's and that Stone's ghost is now his constant companion. Stone is insistent that Moony not only take care of his heart now but that Moony solve his murder. This movie is a fantastic action comedy where there are suspense, humor, enjoyable romance. A good movie and worth seeing.

Bob Hoskins plays Jack Moony, a policeman following a suspicious criminal lawyer played by Denzel Washington. The lawyer is murdered. The policmen has a heart attack and receives his heart from the lawyer. Now the spirit of the murdered lawyer wants the cop to capture his killer--he also wants his transplanted heart to be taken care of. Nice summer movie, light entertainment

Okay, this movie is a little old now, but Denzel and Hoskins are a great pair in this comedy. Prejudiced-white guy is haunted by black guy after receiving his heart in transplant, Denzel becomes his conscience, hilariousness ensues (poor guy!), murder mystery of his death is solved. Interesting twist at end.

This movie is actually pretty funny, and its surprising that not many people have heard of it. Got this for my husband because he loves 80-90's comedy. This is perfect for people who like the silly humor similar to Schwarzenegger or John Candy's comedy films.

this review is from one of my favourite actors,Denzel Washington. This film Heart Condition was produced in 1990 right after Denzels award winning film Glory(1989).After Heart Condition,Denzel does the movie, Mo Better Blues with Spike Lee(also 1990).It seems as though Denzel being the greatest actor of all time decides to make a light comedy especially after the emotional draining previous film, Glory.Out of all of Denzels films, only 3 are comedys out of his 44 or so films. So that makes it more interesting for that reason. The other two comedys are Carbon Copy which was Denzels first hollywood debut film in 1981 at the age of like 22 also costaring George Segal and the other was The Preachers Wife co staring the beautiful Witney Houston and was made in 1996.although Heart Condition is not the most super funniest movie it is interesting to see the artist Denzel taking a break from high drama and let his hair down to do a light hearted comedy for his fans.Very likeable and enjoyable film starring Bob Hoskins from Roger Rabbit and of course the amazing Denzil Washington.I wouldnt say that this movie has all the heart but it is a comedy and although crude at times gets the point across. No complaints here, film crisp and clean and sound sufficient.Over all Heart Condition is a must own for your Denzel Washingtons fabulous collection of a time honoured actors films right from his very first TV film,Wilma (1977) as Denzel plays a young 18 year old love interest to Wilma the star of the movie and Denzel is actually 18 in this film playing, you guessed it a 18 year old young man right up to his last movie at the age of 58,the spectacular film, Flight, that graced the theatres in 2012.Read more ›
