From the Back Cover

A novelization of the feature film Heart of the Country
Faith and Luke Carraday have it all. After taking his inheritance from his father’s stable, lucrative business to invest in a successful hedge fund with the Michov Brothers, Luke is on the fast track as a rising young executive. And Faith, a beautiful singer turned socialite, is settling comfortably into her role as his wife.

When rumors of the Michovs’ involvement in a Ponzi scheme reach Faith, she turns to Luke for confirmation, and he assures her that all is well. But when Luke is arrested, Faith can’t understand why he would lie to her, and she takes off for the farm and the family she turned her back on years ago. Meanwhile, Luke is forced to ask his own family for help as he desperately tries to untangle himself from his mistakes. Can two prodigals return to families they abandoned and hope to be met with open arms? Will a marriage survive betrayal when there is nowhere to run but home?

Her characters are funny and the plot is well developed.

Even though I know many people feel that movies ruin the books, I always want to see if the book can translate well into a movie.

Rene did an excellent job in the development of the characters and all the scenes that took place in the story.

Heart of the Country is the story of Luke and Faith who have been living a dream life. At the first sign of trouble, Faith immediately runs to the only place she can go ... back home to the farm where she was raised. She soon realizes that she has never really grieved over the loss of her mother and she has been running ever since.

Luke has always lived in the shadow of his older brother Jake. Determined to make a name for himself, he collects his inheritance early and invests everything in what he felt was a legitimate business. When he is arrested on fraud charges, he is totally shocked and devastated, as he swears he didn't know what was going on.

It isn't very often that I get so emotional when I read a novel, but Heart of a Country had me wiping away tears more than once. This is an awesome story of faith, forgiveness, and the unconditional love of family.

I give this one a huge thumbs up and can't wait to see the movie.

I enjoyed heart of the Country because of its literary prowess. The story, a fresh spin on The Prodigal Son, moves along quickly with a refreshing multiple first person story telling style. The characters are well developed and the story flows easily from start to finish.

Anyone who enjoys a book with the underlying message that family and faith are the most important part of life will be intrigued with the characters and the current events nature of this story. Well written.

Faith Carraway is a country girl turned socialite. She is married to Luke Carraway and madly in love. She wants for nothing. Before she married Luke she lived to sing but no longer has time for her passion of song or for her family back home. Luke's brother is not to accepting of Faith in the Carraway family and does not think this little country girl fits into the Carraway's social circles.

Faith and Luke live the fairy tale relationship until Luke decides to leave the family business and invest in a hedge fund with the Michov Brothers. Then the fairy tale turns into a nightmare when the Michov's alleged Ponzi scheme threatens Luke's livelihood and his marriage.

Faith feels betrayed by his lies and possible involvement in this scheme. Without even a backwards glance she leaves her socialite life behind and heads back to her country life to stay with her father and get her life back on track. Her sister is not too happy to have Faith return home like the Prodigal daughter. But her father is ecstatic to have his little girl back home.

There is so many facets to Faith's story. The pending lose of her marriage, her estranged relationship with her sister and the nurturing relationship with her father. She finds her roots to be healing and it draws her into a renewal of her spirit. She struggles to accept God's will in her life and can't seem to figure out where she belongs or where she is headed in life.

So many people go through these same trials in their life. God has a plan and we don't always agree with that plan. But if we just let go and let God do his job His plan will be fulfilled.

I highly recommend this book.

I rate this book a 5 out of 5.

Heart of the Country spoke to me on a personal level. The lives intertwining through pain, loss and emotional issues from years past. I know this novel is supposed to be about Faith and Luke - finding their places and renewing relationships; but Faith's family touched me the most in this book. The loss in their lives and how each of them handled that pain through the years spoke to me, obviously because I've felt that loss in my own life. I really related a lot with Faith's sister, Olivia.

Heart of the Country is a very emotional story. Of people losing their rocks, their masks and normal and finally trying to find their place in life, who they are. I loved it.

When I saw the cover, I honestly expected a fluffy, even thin read. Not so! The authors have created fully fleshed out characters that I came to care about. Rene Gutteridge chose to tell the story from the changing voices of the main characters...mostly the two sisters and the husband. Without the author's ability to write really distinctive voices, this could have been confusing. Instead, you get a great look inside these characters' insecurities, fears, and hopes. In addition, the "mystery" behind the death of the girls' mother slowly unwinds through the course of the book. These sections are very poignant and some of my favorites.

Screenwriter John Ward's concept for Heart of the Country is a creative look at the Prodigal story...and there are plenty of folks on the prodigal path. Loved the Older Brother strugglings of Olivia. And I enjoyed how both fathers in the story were good examples of showing self-sacrificing love for their children. Arms open wide may look different in North Carolina and on Wall Street, but it is love just the same.

It was fun to imagine Gerald McRaney as the crusty old farmer & dad, Calvin. He will be perfect in the role. Can't wait to see this one. I've entered the contest. Maybe I'll be standing by Calvin in one of the scenes when the movie releases!
