If we could do fractional scores, I think I'd give this one 3.5 stars...but I'm more inclined to round up than down, I think. For reference, I'm a crocheter who most recently used this yarn to make a ribbed scarf, alternating FPDCs and BPDCs using an H hook.

First, the good:

The colors are so vibrant. I got the Dragonfly colorway, and the jewel tones are very very rich. It goes from green, to teal, to a greenish-purple color that defies description, to purple, to royal blue, with occasional variations in those tones.

It's also faintly shimmery. Not what I'd call metallic at all, but there's just a bit of sheen that really brings out the richness of the colors.

It's unique for a 100% acrylic yarn in that the plies aren't twisted. It's an effect you're far more likely to find in wool and other natural fibers, and the result is a very different look than your standard Super Saver project. (In other words, you can make a scarf or a piece of clothing with this, and it's something that someone will actually wear, vs. something that looks cheap.)

Some reviews mentioned that this yarn is hard to work with. I didn't find it so. The strands do separate sometimes, but I've had far worse times with other yarns. It's easy enough for me.

And because it's 100% acrylic, it's washable. (!!!) No worries about distortion or blocking, and no giving a present to someone and then dropping the bomb on them that they need to dry clean it. (Best way to make sure your gift will never be worn, ever.)

And the bad:

The weight is very variable. The description calls it a 4/Worsted weight. I'd also characterize it as a 4...sometimes.

First I would just like to say that the colors are exceptionally vivid in person. I bought the Parrot color and intend on finishing an infinity scarf with it.... hopefully

The problem with this yarn is that it will disintegrate in your hands even while you are casting on. I've knitted for over 10 years and I am not a tight caster. This is a roving style yarn so this happens. The best way to get around this is to manually pre-twist the skein in the direction of the roving twist to reinforce it so the yarn doesn't start to loosen while casting. It is a royal PITA. Unless you already own a spinner (I don't), working with this yarn will be a slow boat to China because of this issue. Don't expect to just "whip up" your project like a lot of other string-ply acrylic yarns out there. I am actually brainstorming on how to work with this yarn on some type of homemade spinner to set the twist just to finish my project.

Secondly, the yarn isn't consistent. It will be extremely thick in some areas and stretched thin in others, even after doing the pre-twisting like I mentioned. It is truly a roving yarn after all.

I love the color of this yarn but to be honest, it pulled apart on me four times during casting on. For the time being, I am so frustrated with this yarn that I just want to let it be for a little while- it gets to be that frustrating.

Red Heart really outdid themselves, making me come over to the Dark Side of Unnatural Fibers with this yarn. Until this point I've been using solely natural fibers to crochet. I happened across a skein of Boutique Unforgettable yarn in this color (Echo) at a local Joann's store and have completely fallen in love with it. I've only used it for two projects so far, one being jewelry-of-sorts to put in my online store and the other a lace overblouse for myself. I've worn that top 3 times now and all 3 times have been stopped with excited questions about it, once even from a man who doesn't do needlework! So I'd say odds are good you'll get attention if you wear something made from this.

TEXTURE: This is a roving-type yarn in that it doesn't have plies, it's one continuous thread which is sometimes thin and sometimes thick. Because of this, sometimes you may jab your hook or needle through a thicker part the strand unintentionally, splitting it, but it recovers well when you do. Because of the texture it is a little difficult to unravel mistakes, so I'd advise this for a more confident stitcher who doesn't have to undo very often. Use metal hooks/needles else the yarn will snag too easily on your tools.

WEIGHT: It's marked at Yarn Wt 4, but I'd say the majority of yardage is really Wt 2 or possibly Wt 3, with only some shorter sections being Wt 4, and up to Wt 5 in just a few places. I got 17 wraps per inch using a section of yarn that was the size most if it seemed to be.

COLOR: Each color runs for several yards before slowly morphing into another color. I'm rather small and on the lace top I made each color wrapped around myself between once and one-and-a-half times before beginning to morph into the next color, making for nice striping.

While its pretty and soft, the yarn began to pull apart in my hands as easily as pulling on a cotton ball... Not good while in the middle of a project! The first time it happened, i thought maybe i was pulling too hard, the second time, i knew there was no way it was me.
