Finding a Connection,
By Helen Kay Polaski, Author of Forget Me Knots ... (Milan, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Heart of a Father: True Stories of Inspiration and Encouragement (Stories from the Heart) (Paperback)
The Heart of a Father, compiled by Wayne Holmes, is a book that can be quickly read and enjoyed, then set aside for a while and re-read and enjoyed all over again. With each reading, the reader will discover new insights, new ways to connect with God. The stories are told in short bitesize morsels that can be consumed by the eager reader in less time than it would take to inhale a candy bar. And though some of the stories are sprinkled with sugar that's where the similarities between this book and a candy bar and its quickly disappearing sugar-high end. The stories are filled with God's wisdom and tend to remain with the reader throughout the day, helping the reader to discover similarities between the way they teach their own children and the way God teaches us. Mr. Holmes has done a thorough job of making sure the reader puts on a thinking cap, and in doing so has managed to bring God and His ways more fully into their lives.

A Great Reminder of the Father-Heart of God,
By Carey Dyer "denajdyer" (Granbury, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Heart of a Father: True Stories of Inspiration and Encouragement (Stories from the Heart) (Paperback)
In The Heart of a Father, Wayne Holmes has compiled an excellent collection of stories-some inspiring, some humorous, some touching-that gently shows readers how our earthly fathers reflect the Heavenly Father. Writers like Max Lucado, Bob Hostetler, Josh McDowell and Joni Eareckson Tada write honestly and movingly about the ways God revealed Himself in their daddy's actions. As a daughter and a mom, I was challenged to emulate God in my daily interactions with my son. And as a Christian, I was reminded that God loves me even more than my earthly father does.

Heart Stories for the Heart,

This review is from: The Heart of a Father: True Stories of Inspiration and Encouragement (Stories from the Heart) (Paperback)
Warm. Sensitive. Those two words best describe The Heart of the Father, compiled by Wayne Holmes. The stories range from two to five pages and try to hit every aspect of a daddy's heart. You'll read powerful accounts by celebrities such as Leighton Ford who lost his son or Wayne Holmes's own story of a hiking experience with his father. The poignancy of stories by non-famous people such as Linda Knight stand alongside those of Walter Wangerin, Jr. and Max Lucado. We see many compilation books today, but few of them touch the emotions like those in this book. The Heart of a Father is not only the title, but heart is the powerful theme that resonates throughout the book.

This book is very heartwarming. I am reading it for the second time and I find it as captivating as the first time. The author has put his heart and soul into each and every story compiled in this book. It made me think of my own experiences with my father and the love he has shown to me. It truely touches the heart.
