Most Helpful Customer Reviews

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Jaylynn on November 7, 2011
I have been acquainted with many Chinese over my lifetime, but until this book I never really understood anything about what it means to grow up in a Communist country. From that beginning, Chai Ling goes on to the deeper psychological underpinnings of what many women and children around the world face. Things like shame, not being valued as a human being, purposelessness, etc. She offers hope for personal healing as well as a call to help others who are vulnerable by sharing her own road to healing. I am grateful that she and her family were courageous enough to share so openly the journey to wholeness and the call to help others who are unable to help themselves.

I so appreciated Ling Chai's openness. I have been to China many times and seen the places she mentioned in her book. She gives an insight into a chapter of history we would never get from the "official source." She walks us through this dramatic event and shares both her mistakes as well as her triumphs. I have given this book to others. I am very thankful to Mrs. Ling for sharing her story.
