5.0 out of 5 stars Just Enjoy
We have all of Govi's CDs and find everyone of them a pleasure to listen to.

I find that whenever I want to just relax and not think about the insanity we call life, I fire up a Govi CD and can escape to another world.

"Heart of a Gypsy" is a good title for this CD. Govi presents a really nice mix of music that is wandering and wide ranging.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music --- Average recording quality
This CD contains some of Govi's better material; upbeat songs that are well played and sure to make the listener feel good. However, the sound of this recording is somewhat tinny and compressed; not close to the high quality level of Govi's later releases. If played on a boombox or low end system this should not present a problem but if you are listening to this CD on...

Like so many words and phrases "The Greatest", "The Best" are far over used and abused. I feel that Govi is very good, he has excellent technique, his selections are quite good and his supporting mixing and engineering are outstanding.

Among the pieces on this CD is one of my two favorite pieces, that Govi has done. I feel that "Amber Waves" is just an incredible piece of music (the other is "Spirit Rider").

Once in a rare while a few artists can extend their talent beyond themselves and produce something that is realy exceptional. I feel that "Amber Waves" is one of these rare examples of such a moment.

All in all "Heart of a Gypsy" is good music that is easy to listen to and enjoy.

I am buying this to replace a CD that I literally wore out. This is really beautiful music - happy, mellow and great for setting a mood. It helps me focus on my work, it's great background music for enjoying a bottle of wine, and I plan to have it playing when I go into labor with my first baby. I love it!

If played on a boombox or low end system this should not present a problem but if you are listening to this CD on an audiophile or a good mid-fi system, the faults of this recording are readily apparent. I would really like to see Govi re-record the songs of this CD using his present day top notch equipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical, mystical GOVI., March 12, 2002

This makes my 5th GOVI album. (The other four are "Andalusian Nights", "Seventh Heaven", "Guitar Odyssey", "Passion & Grace"). Again, I'm immensely taken in by the sweet music GOVI creates. It is such a 'come-back-down-to-Earth' feeling whenever I spin GOVI's works. "Heart of a Gypsy" is no exception. Very nicely composed, with a good variety of tempos and beautiful guitar music, of course (all types. GOVI is a true master of all things stringed!). The supporting musicians' contributions are really brilliantly executed, no part of which clashes with (or displacing) the mainstream guitar music from GOVI's guitars.

Stunning sound recording, this is what I call "REAL MUSIC". My humble appreciation to Terence Yallop and his dedicated team of professionals. Well Done!

I bought this on tape when it first came out years ago. Now I have the CD and am remembering again how much I love Govi's music.

This CD is sunshine!

Heart of a Gypsy (1991) is a wonderful collection of instrumental music. On the disc, Govi plays an assortment of guitars and percussion, and is joined by guest musicians on synthsizers, and tabla. Highlights of the album include Danza del Mango, Amber Waves, Gypsy Heart, and In Harmony. The sound production quality is limited a bit, especially compared to some of Govi's later albums -- that said, the disc is still quite good. Govi lovers should also check out Guitar Odyssey and Passion & Grace.
