More About the Author

USA TODAY bestselling, and award-winning author and creator of award-winning teddy bears who have found homes all over the world including Australia, Switzerland, China, and Russia, and a retired officer of the US Army Reserves, I love to plant trees and flowers and if I could, I'd turn all the deserts green. Time travels are my favorite read, although I love to read most anything, and the Bourne series, Romancing the Stone, Sixth Sense, Legend, The Princess Bride, Stardust, Inkheart, LOTR, and tons of other movies are my favorites.

I love to research, to make urban fantasy worlds real, to bring a little of the paranormal into our world. Even in "Winning the Highlander's Heart" the heroine feels she is cursed and she has second sight. But I try to do it in a way that feels real, and not fantasized. :) Currently, I'm working on book 2 of the new jaguar shifter series, but still am working on wolf book number 12 and 13! So more hunky wolves to come! A SEAL in Wolf's Clothing has just released.

What could be better than an alpha wolf hero? An alpha wolf hero in a kilt - and, even though this is a contemporary, we get multiple hunky 'weres' in kilts. Yum.

I am a shifter fan so I've read all of Spear's werewolf romances, but Heart of the Highland Wolf is my absolute favorite. I like the way that Spear cleverly sets the romance amid a historical movie being filmed at a Scottish castle, so that there are some historical elements mixed in with the contemporary.

A good part of what made the story for me though, is that all of the characters in Heart of the Highland Wolf are wonderful. I really loved the romantic-at-heart Julia, she's an author who is a werewolf and she writes werewolf romances. Throughout the story Julia takes inspiration from what is going on around her and writes these romantic sexy scenes in her head. And the way that Julia's musings weave into the action make the book that much more romantic and sexy. Her reluctant hero Ian is good too, he tries to use his head but finds himself breaking his own rules since Julia 'gets' to him at a primal level. I also liked Julia's fiery friend Maria who is also a wolf and I hope to see more of her. But of course I can't forget Ian's brothers - he's a quad. In Duncan, Guthrie and Cearnach, author Spear manages three completely different personalities, all of them appealing and I want their books now.

Happily it looks like I'll get my wish. I emailed Spear, and Duncan's story, The Highland Wolf in Paradise is already written. Can't wait.

2.0 out of 5 stars Book Obsessed Reviews: Heart of the Highland Wolf July 10, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Julia is in Scotland with her best friend Maria to do research for her upcoming novel. While Maria and her crew are filming a movie at Laird Ian MacNeill's castle, Julia is doing her own investigating.

Julia finds herself attracted to and intrigued by the laird the minute she lays eyes on his picture. The feeling is mutual for Ian when he first sees Julia.

Although the book opens with a great scene, the overall story was a slow start. I didn't really start to get into the book until around chapter 15 or so. Before that, it didn't really seem like much of anything going on between Ian and Julia, just a lot of page filler. The romance between the two was pretty much nonexistant. Ian was constantly suspicious of Julia and trying to figure out what exactly it was she was hiding. The bulk of the story was him trying to figure her out and her lying to him.

Overall it fell short of my expectations. I really wanted to enjoy this one, but I just never really got there. When it was all said and done, I didn't feel like I knew Julia nd Ian any better than I did when I started the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3 1/2 stars! June 1, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Julia Wildthorn is a werewolf. She's also a romance author with writer's block. She's accompanying her friend Maria (who's also a werewolf) to Scotland for a movie shoot in the hopes that she'll find inspiration for her next book. She's also got a secret task given to her by her grandfather - find an ancient box that's hidden somewhere in the castle.

Werewolf Ian MacNeill is Laird of Argent Castle. Due to some bad investments, his pack is having some financial difficulties, so he reluctantly agrees to let the production company use his castle to make their movie. He's forbidden any of his people to associate with the movie people, and has set very clear boundaries about what areas of the castle can be filmed and what can't.

When Julia and Maria are involved in a car accident, Ian and his brother come to check things out. Ian can't believe how attractive Julia is, and doesn't want to let her out of his sight. Julia, however, doesn't want Ian's attentions while she's searching for the box. The only problem with that is that she can't stop thinking about him.

My thoughts:
Another fun and sexy read by Terry Spear! I enjoy her werewolf world and the characters in it.

Julia was a fun heroine - I loved that she was a romance author. The scenes where everyone is reading her books were cute. I laughed when she tried to be stealthy and sneaky and find the box, she really wasn't very good at it. Ian was definitely an Alpha - he was good at barking out orders, and Julia was very good at ignoring them :)

The secondary characters were just as much fun - I'm in love with Ian's brothers and am hoping that they'll get their own stories later on. I also liked Heather, a young werewolf who wants to get out and see the world without her pack watching over her.

Some of my favorite scenes in the book were the movie fight scenes where all the locals dressed in kilts and re-enacted sword battles.

I can't really get into the plot point I didn't understand without spoilers: it has to do with the box and a binding promise handed down between generations. Once things got to a certain point in the book, I didn't understand why it was still important.

Overall though, a fun sexy read with lots of werewolves and highlanders (two of my favorite things!), and as I stated above, I'm hoping we'll see some of the characters again.
