Book Description

February 24, 2009
"Gregg Olsen is one of the best."--Allison Brennan

"Olsen brings his vast knowledge of the criminal mind to the fictional stage."--Anne Frasier

Three bodies, three different towns. Each victim was a sorority girl--pretty, privileged, and brutally murdered. There are no fingerprints, no clues. He is scrupulously careful, craving those exquisite seconds when the light fades from his victim's eyes. But the rush never lasts, and the killing won't stop--not until one special woman has been made to suffer. . .

Praise for Gregg Olsen's Novels. . .

"Grabs you by the throat." --Kay Hooper

"Wickedly clever! Genuinely twisted."--Lisa Gardner

"As good as it gets."--Lee Child

"An irresistible page-turner."--Kevin O'Brien

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Olsen (A Cold Dark Place) deftly juggles multiple plot lines as Cherrystone, Wash., sheriff Emily Kenyon investigates the murder of a local woman while crazed serial murderer Michael Barton, on a cross-country killing spree, terrorizes comely young sorority girls. The dead woman's husband is an arrogant philanderer, but Kenyon lacks solid evidence that he was the one who disposed of his inconveniently pregnant wife in a particularly grisly manner. Meanwhile, Kenyon's ex-partner in the Seattle PD, Chris Collier, is pressuring her to make a decision concerning their ongoing romantic relationship. After one failed marriage and singlehandedly raising her daughter, Jenna, Emily is gun-shy about any kind of commitment. When Barton targets Jenna, tension builds but is diffused by Barton's overly extensive backstory, which humanizes him at the cost of the reader's attention. (Mar.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hardcore Thriller!, March 5, 2009
This review is from: Heart of Ice (Mass Market Paperback)
Fans of Gregg Olsen's last book, A COLD DARK PLACE, will be thrilled to see the return of Emily Kenyon. In HEART OF ICE, she is the sheriff of Cherrystone, Washington. She's in a serious relationship with Chris Collier and he's pushing for marriage. Her personal struggle in this relationship adds realism and dimensions to this character's personality. This same care is given to each character of the story making this an engrossing read.

As with his previous fictional books, Gregg Olsen jumps right into action with a missing pregnant woman, Mandy Crawford. When she isn't found, her husband becomes the lead suspect. At the same time this investigation is going on, three bodies are found in three different towns. This is why the police didn't tie the murders together. It was Emily's daughter, Jenna, who discovered the three were friends of hers, sorority girls from college. Little did she know, she'd been the intended target for one of the murders.

Olsen has a rare gift of adding strong multiple sub-plots to the story without confusing the reader. Each adds a new twisted addition to a tightly woven tale. Without a doubt, he is one of the best writers in this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart Of Ice, March 4, 2009
This review is from: Heart of Ice (Mass Market Paperback)
Originally got hooked on wanting to read this book just from the snippet at the end of the last book. Finally saw it out on the shelf, bought it and had to fight my son off to read it first.

As usual, Gregg Olsen came through with a book that every time I got ready to put the book down another good twist came up and I just had to read more. Now I'm just waiting for the next one to get here too....Heart of Ice

3.0 out of 5 stars Should have been two books, March 27, 2009
By
Bettymouse (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heart of Ice (Mass Market Paperback)
This was one of those books that seemed like the author had two good ideas and put them both in one book. The two main story lines, while interesting, were only tenuously connected. Each would have made a fine book; there was no reason to put them together. The ending, particularly concerning the Beta Zeta killer story line, was very abrupt and rather unsatisfying.
