Sweet but something missing,
By
This review is from: From the Heart (Hardcover)
From everything I've read about the late author, she was an extraordinary, unique, extremely loving person. I have a feeling they don't make them like June Carter Cash anymore. You can certainly hear her obviously sweet voice throughout this book, a collection of vignettes that are nearly all like little golden eggs. There are times when the reader might be confused to some of the references unless the reader's familiar with country music, and has maybe read some other books about her life or the life of her husband, the late Johnny Cash. The one thing I looked for but didn't find in this book was a little bit of a peek inside the courtship between she and Johnny. In fact, I admit to looking and missing that in both of Mr. Cash's autobiographies as well. It was such a huge part of their personas to leave out of their writings. There are many lovely stories here, especially the ones she tells from her childhood; I think those were my favorite.

Sweet anecdotes of June's life and times.........,
By
This review is from: From the Heart (Hardcover)
I found this book at the library in the biography section and immediately picked it up. While not exactly a biography, it is still a good book. It contains 46 sweet anecdotes of June Carter Cash's life and times. Some from her childhood, her experiences on tour, her children and being Mrs. Cash top the list of favorite topics. She reminisces about her times with Elvis Presley and with Hank and Audrey Williams. If you can find it, this book is not to be missed!!

It's amazing! After I read this book I feel like I knew June and she ws my life long companion. I told her my secrets, she told me hers, but I'm not telling! No way! Amazing stories and great photos throughout her entire life. A great piece of work, June is more like a good friend than a favorite singer now! God Bless You June, your spirit lives on forever!June

Learning More About June and John,
By Mary Ellen (NC, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From the Heart (Hardcover)
I enjoyed this book very much, especially the amazing and plentiful photographs. While reading, I felt as though I were in a personal conversation with June and her thoughts were bouncing all around. I know she was a person full of great energy but I wanted to say, "Hey, slow down a minute and let me get this straight!" I remember June and her family when I was much younger and watching them on tv. Always was a big Johnny Cash fan and after seeing "Walk The Line" with Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix, just had to read more about this famous couple.

Closer to Heaven Than Nashville,

"From the Heart" reminded this reviewer of "Bus Fare to Kentucky", the autobiography of country singer Skeeter Davis. What was anticipated here as a "Country" story got entwined in a religious message. FH is a series of vignettes/ short stories of Nashville folk and the Carter entourage. Those anticipating a linear progression of June's career may be disappointed. Those who like a moral to their country story should not be. Since my review of Skeeter's literary endeavor may have been a tad sarcastic, this reviewer will give June a pass: 3 stars. The country biography of choice remains "Country Sunshine", portraying the life of the late and great Dottie West.

Anecdotes from June Carter's life - this book is not quite the read I expected and I sometimes found it hard to follow.
