5.0 out of 5 stars A rollicking good time!, July 31, 2003
By
This review is from: Heart On The Line (Mass Market Paperback)
Loretta D'Angelo has a challenging, often frustrating job working on the Becky Baker show. The world of talk shows is fast changing and constantly demanding that new ideas be found to keep up with what the viewers want. Seeing a sexy man get the better of an obnoxious cell phone user gives her inspiration for a show, but Josh is not at all receptive to being on her show. She does manage to eventually talk him into coming on the show, portraying an arranged blind date for her, but though Josh and Loretta might have progressed to friendship, that is all it will ever be. Josh has a girlfriend, even though she lives across the country, and he has bigger social concerns to take care of as a lawyer for the downtrodden of society. Loretta is not interested in dating at all, especially after her unfortunate history with people her parents fix her up with.

Nonetheless, the two find themselves growing more and more attracted to each other. The girlfriend hundreds of miles away is becoming harder to stay faithful to, as are all Loretta's determinations to maintain her independence.

***** This book is a rollicking good time, perfect for the blahs of summer. You can picture Meg Ryan or Reese Witherspoon as Loretta with no problem, and all I can say is Matt is a dream, handsome and so caring that he is dedicated to taking care of his mother's lawn personally on a weekly basis. If the book only told us where to find one of him, it would be perfect. *****

5.0 out of 5 stars warm and entertaining Manhattan frolic, August 5, 2003
This review is from: Heart On The Line (Mass Market Paperback)
TV talk show producer Loretta D'Angelo has pressure on two fronts. At work, the ratings are down, which will result in the staff being reduced by one. Thinking she will be a victim of LIFO, Loretta also struggles with her family of dentists who put pressure on to give up her non-swinging Manhattan single's life to marry dentist Marty Calabrese, whom she never dated.

On the Long Island Railroad, Loretta observes passenger Josh Kaplan shut down the cell phone of an obnoxious individual. She introduces herself to him asking if he would be interested in coming on her show as the cell phone hero. Instead her boss, TV personality Becky Blake, selects Loretta to go on the air on a blind date. She pleads with Marty, whose girlfriend lives in Florida, to help her. As they go out on the worst date of their lives, Marty and Loretta fall in love.

This is an amusing contemporary romance that will keep the audience laughing with the antics of the lead couple, that of the extended dental group and finally the other TV show players. Readers will applaud Josh for his cell phone heroics sort of mindful of Annie Hall when Woody gets McLuhan to shut up the pseudo intellectual students. HEART ON THE LINE is simply a warm and entertaining Manhattan frolic.

5.0 out of 5 stars It All Started on the Train, July 17, 2010
This review is from: Heart On The Line (Mass Market Paperback)
Daytime talk show producer Loretta D'Angelo is twenty-nine and has the world by the tale, or so she believes. However her family would be happy if she got married, but of course she needs a man for that. Then she meets one on the train. Well, she doesn't want to marry him at first sight, but she's definitely kind of interested, sort of.

Attorney Josh Kaplan lives an ordinary, routine kind of life. He takes cases for people that really need his help, plays chess and volunteers at a senior center. He sounds kind of boring, doesn't he. He's not. Oh, yes, I forgot to mention he has a girlfriend. I also forgot to mention that she lives in Florida, not exactly an easy commute from New York.

Josh's life is about to take a new turn, as he meets Loretta on the train coming back into the City. She had been visiting her rather large family, the one that wants her married. And he had been coming back from visiting his mother. Loretta asks Josh to guest on her talk show, asking him to pose as a blind date. They quickly become fast friends, but Josh makes it clear he's not interested in romance, he has that girlfriend in Florida, after all. Besides, Loretta is an independent gal and wants to stay that way.

So what do you think is going to happen to our couple who happened to meet on that train? I know, but I'm not telling. I will say this though, the book is a hoot, the story is super, the characters are wonderful and I couldn't put this one down.
