Loreth Anne White was born and raised in southern Africa, but now lives in a ski resort high in the moody British Columbian Coast Mountain range. It's a place of vast, wild and often dangerous mountains, larger-than-life characters, epic adventure, and romance -- the perfect place to escape reality.

It's no wonder it was here she was inspired to abandon a 16-year career as a journalist, features writer, and editor (under the name Loreth Beswetherick) to escape into a world of romantic fiction filled with dangerous men and adventurous women.

When she's not writing you will find her long-distance running, biking or skiing on the trails, and generally trying to avoid the bears. She calls this work, because it's when the best ideas come.

What would we all do if we knew that a deadly plague was going to be exposed and destroy all of us? For Hunter McBride and Sarah Burdett the choice is simple--do whatever needs to be done. Together, Hunter and Sarah must get the pathogen into the safe hands of Hunter's Organization in order to find an antidote that could save millions. Through the vast and dangerous Congo jungle they travel and try to stay alive. With the dangers of jungle animals, terrorists on all sides and the uncertainty if they'll live to see another day or if they'll be able to stop the plague from being exposed, Hunter and Sarah must also fight they're feelings for one another. If they make it out alive, could there be a chance for the two of them--or for the millions who don't know what's coming...

Loreth Anne White has written the first of an amazing series, The Shadow Soldiers. Hunter is a tortured hero who is written brilliantly. While he is tortured by the past that still haunts him, it's not something that is beat to death in the story. The author writes about his past and readers can feel his every emotion, but she does it with honesty and dignity, not making it a heavy burden upon the reader. Sarah is a great heroine who comes to find out a lot about herself in the Congo jungle and with Hunter. She is out of her depth in this kind of situation and has her own past that haunts her.

The author has put together a great ensemble of characters that draw a reader into the story and leave us wanting more of the same in the next book. The Heart of a Mercenary is a story that touches a reader. What if it was up to a few people to save the world and we didn't even know about it? There are so many thoughts and emotions that this story brings forth from its readers, too many to name, but Ms. White really knows how to tell a story--one that will leave a reader thinking about long after it's finished. The Heart of a Mercenary is unforgettable, spell-binding, dangerous, exciting and the romance between Hunter and Sarah is beautiful. This is one story readers shouldn't miss.
