"sensitive arrangements took metal to another level", January 17, 2001
This review is from: Heart of Metal 2 (Audio CD)
Hip-O Records presents metal of the '70s, '80s and '90s in this outstanding compilation of artists of that period - "Heart Of Metal 2", deeply-felt, elephantine ballads set this album above the rest, middle school poetry to music...this is the best of the best.
Of course there are the stand outs - "SINCE YOU BEEN GONE" from the album "Down To Earth", has Rainbow performing Russ Ballard's playful tune with more sentiment than ace guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's legendary lightning-fast fretwork, final result was the biggest hit of an already-distinguished recording career..."LOVE SONG" probably the signature song of Tesla, opening features Frank Hannon's finger-work of acoustic guitar with blends of renaissance and Jeff Keith's tortured-blues vocal as the album reached No. 07 in 1989..."WHEN I"M WITH YOU" one and only hit from the one and only album by Sheriff, the Canadian band with it's slow, unforgettable romantic tempo went No. 01 in 1988.
And now the highlights - "HERE I GO AGAIN" has Whitesnake's mid tempo chords and steady insinuating layers of angelic harmonies, David Coverdale's convincing solo reaching No. 1 in 1987 in Billboard, still has that classic sound..."STILL LOVING YOU" has the German band Scorpions with their distinctive sound...and Klaus Meine simply pleading with senstivity, as guitar Rudolf Schenker works himself into a lather, never be another.
Hats off to Mike Ragogna, Pat Lawrence and Hip-O Records for this treat of all treats, metal as you like it, all on one CD...and so "metal-music-buffs" pick one up, enjoy and relive those days when you were young and restless...this is a WINNER...and that is my final answer!
Total Time: 54:02 on 12 Tracks...Hip-O Records 520181...(2001)
